I'm not so sure Dave. The media now are so chummy with the athletes that no one really asks questions. There isn't a David Walsh, and Kimmage is pushed to the sidelines. GCN et al are just cycling PR.
It strikes me as quite funny that Froome, Wiggins and that generation were often tainted by accusations, yet their performances were some way below that from the 90s and 00s, yet since Covid, performances have gone through the roof and people are...
I read an interview where he said that he feels he can't compete with Pog and JV. For a rider with so much talent he looks completely beaten, out of ideas.
What kind of riding are you thinking of doing? Bikes seem to have become extremely expensive in recent years, so whatever you go for, you might do well in the 2nd hand market.
Something's not right. It's 90's era ascent speed.
He looks like he's yawning here after that ride yesterday.
Anyway, I'm just off out for my Hautacam - Cleves Hill, Ormskirk...I'll let you know my VAM later.
As a point of reference, Pantani's Alp d'Huez record had a VAM of 1829. Pogacar's ride yesterday was 1854. When he (and others) blitzed Pantani's record on Plateau de Beille last year, I think he had a VAM of 1875.
Since Covid, it's noticeable...
I suppose just try and do a good TT today and see the lay of the land after that. If they're another 90 seconds behind then there's not really much hope.
My time for Hautacam - 1 hour
Pogacar's time for Hautacam - 33.27

The saddest thing is, that was probably my fittest ever year, and I was thinking a VAM of over 1,000 for an hour is good going...
