I have said the same before, at least give it a try.

….despite his size, what I’ve seen of Reece Welch is how uncompetitive and easily bullied he is in games. I really liked him in that first FA Youth Cup run but been so disappointed in him since. I hoped he’d be the real deal but he’s really...

I'm guessing they hadn't realised he was going to officially release it himself and so it took them an hour or so to respond, not particularly odd.

I wish him well, he scored some very important goals for us. I think a lot of decisions are being made based on salaries , no problem with that.
  • B
That may be a problem because of PSR. We may agree deals before June but is unlikely they will be signed until July.

Our squad isn't that old really but the average age is totally skewed by a number of players... a lot of whom will probably leave this summer or next. Gueye, Doucoure, Coleman, Keane and Young have really pushed up the average age of the squad.

Whatever you think about 'Old Ashley' he's a complete professional who has never given us less than maximum effort. Compare and contrast with Delph, who came here with a big time Charlie attitude and felt he was doing us a favour. Of course...

He has done wonderfully well since he came into the team. I did think he might be sold in the summer but not at all certain now and if he is I think for a greater fee than we paid for him.

Also troubled the defences of the top teams when he played against them iirc.

Say what you will, Ashley Young gives more to his club than many players half his age. He stays fit and match-ready. Even now, he stabilized us a number of times. He seems a class act and I wish him all the best 💙.

He can hold his head high for his time here. Nothing but professional during a horrible period for us. He leaves with my thanks. The time is right though.

…turns out there was plenty of unnecessary angst. Young has been very decent for us, terrific professional and played for us as though it mattered.

All good points. I think both Coleman and Young are being retained because of the reasons you give. Helping a new squad to gel together.

Reactionary folks like usual, most will end up calling it by sponsor name in some form eventually

Unprecedented for Everton is what was probably meant.
