I hope no one boos the national dirge (sorry anthem).

I hope it is impeccably observed at Goodison on Sunday.

(although I know it won’t be)

Not because I object to anyone booing that awful racist, sectarian dirge with its anti Scottish, anti Catholic sentiment.

I booed it lustily at Wembley in 1986 with 100,000 other fans of Scouse football teams.

And again in 1995.

But I wouldn’t boo this Sunday even if I was going.

Why?

Because the Kopites are reviled because of it this past year or so so let’s just leave the buggers to it.

;)

It is in England yes, but at the same time Liverpool in my opinion, always appeared to me to be a city at odds with the rest of England.
would you call it a chicken/egg thing

i was told when i was a youngster that being from Liverpool was a stigma until the Beatles came along. i then learnt it independently from ex-pats of an older generation when i moved to London.
anything from Liverpool became a target for the media and the city was shown in a very negative light, especially in the 1980s with Militant etc

i think the rest of the country believed the hype, attitudes and stereotypes are reinforced and develop depending on circumstances.
i`m obviously no sociologist its just my experience i`m passing on.

Of all the cringey thungs that have happened in football recently, this “applause“ at such and such a minute is among the two I hate most.

And I don’t care what the reason is.

(the other is teams wearing change strips in away games where there is literally no colour clash)
Yup, I hate these things too.
The 'applaud at a certain minute' thing is ok when it's a fan led movement and happens somewhat organically but when it's organized by officials it just bothers me. Is there another one if there's 6 mins added time, bringing us to 96?

Its showing us that football doesn't matter in comparison due to how late in the game it is. The passion for the end of the match whatever the current result is taken away, in its place a performance to show how virtuous everyone is

Hmmm. There was a little girls funeral today, it was asked for mourners to wear pink.

(if you've got one wear it) 9 minutes in, full minute of applause please.
