SCRAP VAR

But it doesn't solve anything because the same crap referees will be making the same crap decisions.

'VAR' is simply video replays. They work in every single other sport that they are used in, because they are used correctly and with full disclosure. There's no reason why the same couldn't happen here.
At least the game won’t stop every few minutes!

But that still doesn't solve the problem.

VAR itself is not the issue, it's the muppets who use it.

Improve the referees, that is the sustainable solution. Not blame it on having technology to use.
Agree to a point, but VAR is not sorting the issues with offsides, red cards, handballs etc. out, it’s just blurring the lines, changing definitions of rules and stopping the spontaneity of the game. We are realistically no better off than when on-field was the only source. Improvement of on pitch referees has been needed for years and would be so difficult to get truly right. The answer maybe to have ex pros looking at VAR and have them independent to the refs?

VAR isn’t the problem at all, in fact it’s an incredibly useful tool that will help football immensely. The problem are the people operating it. People thought refs were crap before so when VAR was brought in it would change that but it doesn’t make any difference if the people controlling VAR are those same crap referees as before.

Doesn’t help either that a lot of the head men are the same that were refereeing in the midst of Ferguson at United, a time where you can even hear former United players come out now saying they know they got preferential treatment from referees, now they’re the ones in charge. It’s madness.

There’s a reason why generally speaking in other European leagues as well as in European competitions that VAR isn’t nearly as much of a hot topic, it’s because the people behind them aren’t nearly as incompetent, when a decision goes against a team in a non-English involved match there’s uproar because it happens so relatively rarely to them whereas here a match week cannot go by without AT LEAST 1 major incident, it’s gotten so bad now that most matches have at least 1, never mind the whole 10 matches between them.

English referees are a disgrace and everyone involved, from the FA, Premier League, PGMOL, former refs and certain people in the media are all complicit. If a player or manager can’t come out after a game when all is said and done and speak their mind on the performance of a person involved in the match without fear of repercussion then what kind of state is the game in at all? If the media, pundits and general public are allowed to rightly criticise players or managers then it’s only fair that they get to speak their mind on whatever they feel like too.

The whole game from top to bottom is a disgrace that’s intended on protecting friends rather than actually doing their job to the highest standard.

I don't understand. You say it's the crap referees that are the problem, yet you want to give them more scope to reinforce their crapness with video replays?

The only viable solution: get rid of it immediately and let the game happen in real time again, like it has been for 150 years.

Article on the BBC Football page bemoaning the VAR cotroversies today.....
( No mention of Everton match or VVD )

agreed. I think when you pause things, it always look worse than it is.
Coady was a 50/50 offside (same with Gray) and both would've been given if there was no VAR. And some questions have to be made on how they drew the line, did they take into account the camera angle errors, etc.

The problem was the interpretation of the offside rule that any part of the body is considered to be offside but the principles of offside rules are whether the players have an unfair advantage by being in an advanced position. In both Coady and Gray's cases, neither were in an unfair advantage - the defenders screwed up and didn't mark our players. Essentially, by being so detail - VAR ended up bailing defenders mistakes.

Get rid of the crap referees and you'd barely need VAR to begin with but if they insist on having crap referees on the pitch at least bring in experts to man the VAR, people that aren't afraid to challenge the person on the pitch because they're not part of a boy's club. VAR as a concept is good, VAR in practice with proper professionals is good, only in England is it such a massive issue because the people up and down the organisation are crap.

The grumbles about the west ham disallowed goal I don't agree with. The keeper was caught by bowen off the ball albeit accidently, but the keeper was caught and then unable to get up to defend his goal. There were 4 seconds between the time it took from bowens contact with the keeper and the ball going in the net. Mendy could have gotten up and had a chance to defend the shot had he not been impeded by Bowen. Therefore it has to be disallowed and a foul given. Correct decision.

The offside one for Villa is clearly a wrong decision as he's onside. But the referee blew his whistle 2 seconds before the shot was taken, at which point stones and Diaz in front of the ball stopped defending and stones in particular could have quite easily got in the way of the shot. Ederson also only made a half hearted effort to stop it as he also heard the whistle. For suggestions to say Villa had a good goal ruled out is sensationalism. Quite simply coutinhos shot would highly likely have been blocked before even getting near the goal. That doesn't excuse the decision as it was wrong, but let's not pretend city were trying to get in the way of the shot just to prove a point.

There are two observations I've made from some over exaggerated var hate calls over Saturdays fixtures.

The Villa call is why linesman should wait to flag but everyone complained about that
