Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning all on this sunny here in Hyvinkää . So sad about Ben Godfrey ,the back had looked really solid as it did throughout .I thought Mason came in seamlessly and Patterson showed he is up to the task ,I must say that Iwobi has won me over ,chuffed to bits typing that ! Ali is finished and the two wing backs couldn't get into the game .It must be frustrating when they know if the ball gets into the box they have no one to finish it .Overall a mile better than last year as I definitely didn't get upset by the constant passing across the back .We will play worse and win .
Have a great day all .

They didn't show it Fred .So pointless as the ball had obviously gone out seconds before .
The whole incident was ridiculous Fred and Blue and sums us up right now.

Terrible back pass by Godfrey. Pickford recklessly tries to keep the ball going for a corner ( and in doing so handed possesion to the forward ) . The ball was clearly already out for a corner but the lino didn't flag and poor old Godfrey throws himself into an unecessary challenge and in doing so causes his own injury.

Honestly you couldn't make it up

Yeah. Followed it sporadically in the match thread and it wasn't anywhere near as toxic as it usually is for a home defeat. I thought maybe the mood was tempered a little by the shock of Godfrey's injury. We do get more than our fair share of serious injuries to our players. Anyway despite our defeat I too was heartened by the overall mood in the Everton forum generally, Yerry Mina notwithstanding. As you say, a lot of positives to be taken from yesterday, notably Iwobi, Patterson, Tarks and Holgate. I was pleased that when Mina went off he slotted Myko into the LCB role. That's the way forward IMO.

There wasn't any toxicity in the crowd except towards Pawson for some bizarre decisions.
You could see that defensively the players were well organised and knew their roles , so much better than last season. Tarkowski helped a lot in this Regard, an excellent defender.
In midfield Doucoure and especially Iwobi worked incredibly hard , although Doucoures challenge that led to the pen was braindead.
The big problem is that there was virtually nothing going forwards. All 3 worked hard but there was no creativity and no focal point. Dele was an embarrassment when he came on.
Bringing in Gana Onana makes us even more solid but I have no idea where the goals are coming from.
10 out of 10 for effort and commitment but I don't think that will be enough.
BTW Chelsea were pretty poor.

That's a new one on me Blue. I've had lambs kidneys before but not pork.

Remember having steak and kidney pie at a Gary Rhodes restaurant once. It was a fillet steak with a kidney pie. Very amusing ?

Yeah. Creativity is a problem but at least we've made ourselves more difficult to beat, and that's a start. Plus we won't be coming up against teams as organised as Chelsea every week. Remember they shut out Liverpool in 2 finals last season.

Maybe the injury to DCL is a blessing in disguise in that it forces our hand to bring in a striker earlier in the window which still leaves us open to bringing in a loan or 2 on the final day. We also need to shunt a few out. Numbers wise we'll be very top heavy in midfield.
