New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

Exactly. Everton Stadium on Bramley Moore Dock...and when its built it'll be just referred as the '<Corporate Name'> Stadium' - no one will use the site location anymore.

To use it in the future would be like saying now that you're going to Walton when you mean you're going to Goodison Park.

It's withering away.
When they renamed Lansdowne Road after the redevelopment I thought it'd never catch on and that it would still be referred to as Lansdowne. To my shame I call it the Aviva now and I've been watching matches there since 85' FFS

Marketing works.

That was a redevelopment? Blimey. Thought it was a new build, hence that daft end with about 6 seats in it.

It was referenced as such in a Times piece about it today. Its a few pages back, under a "spoiler", and its a great read.
Yes, that's where I mentioned it from.

I can understand that the club wont want to promote the stadium as such as they want to be able to present as clean a slate as possible to a stadium naming rights sponsor, but fans can do it.

It's a shame the name Bramley Moore has persisted as long as it has.

You can be sure if the boot was on the other foot that lot would be talking about a Fourth Grace in order to claim the city.

It's down to the sheer volume of references to it. That'll be especially the case if a space is being used for some completely new activity.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that if even Goodison, Anfield or OT had taken naming rights it wouldn't be long before those names too would be buried under the weight of another name.

Aviva got it spot on, they spent an absolute fortune for 2 years before and after it reopened sponsoring stuff and on adverts.

Then weirdly they subsequently pretty much pulled out of Ireland during the crash and only have a small enough insurance presence now.

I think they paid about 35m for the naming rights iirc,

I knew the reason, just not that it was redevelopment. That said, I guess, technically, the Principality is a redevelopment of the Arms Park, but like the Aviva, has hardly any references to its former self.
I thought the Arms Park was still there?

Used to walk past it on my way to Anfield Comp.

Happy days.

….a few dicker mates bought shares in it to keep it going through the bad times. At one stage they were offered £30k each for a Supermarket development. Some fine players played there over the years, especially with Waterloo Dock & the Canada.

Anfield Comp had some fine players over the years, including an old team mate of mine back in the early 70s.
