Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Oh I know it's all about gender neutrality but don't understand the apparent inconsistencies Kev.

Is it PC madness or am I unenlightened ?
Hi Sid. Nice of you to tell us your real name. I think you're just a sexist mate?

Aren't we all though. I still call a female actor an actress and a female lion a lioness. And, let's be honest, the English ladies throughout this tournament have all been lionesses, so I think the nickname is very apt. Sod PC.

Morning everyone ,

lovely , bright sunny morning here.

Awoke still feeling tired after yesterday's exertions.

Only played table tennis for 2 hours last night , just ran out of energy.

The good news is that the next 6 tonnes of gravel doesn't arrive until Friday so a couple of restful days before then , although I am off to the gym soon !

When I got home from ping pong I had a cheeky beer and watched the Lionessess Must admit I've just never got around to watching women's football before and I was very impressed with technique and passion showed by the girls. It was good.

Got me thinking though .....and honestly I'm not being Sid the Sexist here .....We no longer call actresses , actresses or use the term heroine but do call the Womens team Lionesses . Can someone explain that to this old man please.

Anyway have a lovely day everyone
I love that guys means anyone now ,what happened to gals or girls ?

Finished my re-designed oars for a neigbour today photo tomorrow as they are drying .We were loaned his rowing boat for a couple of hours but one oar was broken ,so I thought it would be nice to make a pair .
I love to challenge design so I tried something I thought might work and couldn't find on google .It should be fun when he tells me they don't work !
They were made from scrap pieces so if they end up on the fire it won't break my heart .
Next project is to re-varnish the rowing boat I made a few years ago .

Woman’s SA team called Banyana Banyana.. meaning girls girls…. Fair enough as the men are called Bafana Bafana.. or boys boys

Tbf they just won the Africa nations cup so should be elevated to woman woman… while the boys should really just be called a mess

I've been thinking about this all day. So here's my take. I can see why humans have gender neutral- a person who acts is an actor regardless of gender. People who put out fires are firefighters. There shouldn't be a need to specify gender. Police officer, chair of a meeting ( why do you need man or person attached) However to call a team of women after a male animal would seem to be reinforcing the patriarchy. Also slightly misleading. If I went to see the Lions play I would be expecting men! Lionesses are far better than lions anyway, they do all the hunting and lead the pride while the lions just hang around in the background! Maybe they should have picked the other creature on the coat of arms and called themselves the unicorns! No confusion but not as fierce ?

Excellent analysis - I like it - consider me educated!
