On what planet do we have a winning hand though? Everybody knows we desperately need to bring money in from sales and everybody knows Richie wants out of the club. We have no leverage in this situation.

That's pretty much it, hardly a queue of interested clubs, everyone knows we need to sell within a short timeframe, the player wants to leave so keeping him isn't an option. Buying club holds all the cards... Can blame the management for putting us in this situation where we need to sell one of our best players before July 1st but not for negotiating a deal of 50-60M...

No pressure on Leeds to sell having banked 50M earlier in the week...

That was a while ago and there’s been absolutely nothing since so my hope is waning.

Soon as Richy goes then we will see what the recruitment plan for the club actually is, without doubt that's the key to everything now.

Do we go 'safe' for mid - late 20s 'premiership proven' or do we recruit younger players and seek to build an actual team for the long term. Option 1 we are basically admitting the goal is mid table survival, option 2 we are at least trying to do something which could yield results. But in theory is riskier.

I'd say keeping him is a perfectly reasonable option. If we sell him, we have to replace him. We are a stronger squad with him in it, and if Spurs or anybody else want him they will have to pay our price, not theirs.

We’re at least going some way to cutting some of the ridiculously expensive wage bill;
Delph £80k
Sig; £100k
Tosun; £80k
Kenny; £20k
Richarlison; £80k
Loans
El Ghazi; £60k
VDB; £100k

Plus we’ll hopefully be able to shift Kean, Gomes and possibly Mina which would bring in another £40-50 million in transfer fees and save £200k a week in wages.

That means a cut of nearly £750k a week from the wages and around £100 million income from transfer fees with Richarlison being the only one who was a regular stater.

Hopefully that frees up enough funds for Lampard and Thelwell to improve the squad. We’re surely due a transfer window where we actually buy players who improve us!

The media is as red as it gets. Don't believe the hype, its only there to make a story. We've offloaded a shed load of wages, have the Kean money coming in, and we've dropped another year off the P/L ratio so we're in a far better financial position that we were this time last year.

Yeah but its everton reporters that said it first in the Athletic - you can ignore it but there is no reason for them to make stuff like that up.

And the above is irrelevant- the sale before 30th June is to satisfy the three year cycle of P&S- 22/23 should be absolutely fine replacing a 100M loss on the books. But if we dont get under that figure for the three (four) year cycle ending 30th June we wont be controlling any of our business- we will be at the mercy of the league for whatever period they see fit.

Other fans seem to love the idea of us being a disaster, like the weird clamour for us to get relegated last season, so the media just repeat one persons opinion on the situation a hundred times until everyone believes it’s true and it doesn’t matter that it’s not because they got their clicks.

If we were in such a desperate financial situation there’s no way we’d have sold Digne in the winter window and replaced him with Myko, an expensive young right back prospect, Dele, two big additional wages from VDB and El Ghazi - makes no sense

Is it not because those 520k pw savings aren't actually realised till next year when they will be part of the calculation which determines our ability to spend.

Which obviously isn't a bad thing. But means the square root of nothing for the here and now.

In reality the PL have placed Everton in pretty much special measures. They would probably like to allow us some room for manoeuvre as its to know ones benefit to pressure us into selling our best players at a cut price but they probably have to show to others that they are being fair.

Its all a bit of a disaster really.

There is no harm mixing the approach, as long as it doesnt involve spending 15M+ on players that dont realistically have a sell on value...

Older players like Tarkowski, Eriksen... great- free transfers that evidently improve us... players in their mid 20s that are big upgrades but cost a lot of money- maybe 1 or 2- like Zinchenko, or younger players with big sell on that are on lower wages like Johnson or Lewis Potter. Or even gambles on younger players from abroad that are riskier, but have a huge potential at a lower cost than domestic talents

Because its a rolling cycle of losses, if, for example, for the 3 year period upto end of 20/21 we were under the limit by 10M, then the for the the end of 21/22 we need to have a loss that is less than 10M worse than the loss that drops out of the cycle. I believe that was 17M or so (before deductions)... so the loss for 21/22 would have to be less than 27M (before deductions). Of course nobody knows the exact figures- but it is evident that we have a compliance issue for the period ending tomorrow and things will be better from Friday onwards (assuming we comply)

Its not that we are in a desperate situation financially- we just need to comply, and the club made those signings knowing they were fighting relegation and assuming there would be a big sale before the end of June. Thats pretty much it. But anyway- the Digne sale offset all those incomings financially for 21/22 and left us in a better position for the season

We need to maximise cash value for him. The timing of sale in relation to this is the most difficult judgement call as it also affects our ability to buy other players in a timely fashion. It's a very difficult situation thanks to shambolic mismanagement.

IMO we probably have another fortnight tops. Don't accept the opening bids as it appears we haven't and hope to God there is further interest. Unfortunately Spurs hold the aces here and they know it.
