Your point about wages is a good one too.
There does seem to be a shift in wages and how people view players. I wrote at the beginning of the pandemic that pluers post 25 are losing value, and lads approaching 30 this is especially true. It's partly the consequence of the flawed FFP legislation, which distortes the market towards having to make profits on players, but whatever the rights and wrongs of this, it's a thing.
It's hard though to know how to pitch deals or value. Objectively 27-35m for Mane is clearly a very good deal for Bayern. There's a fair question whether 300k is quite as cheap. They certainly won't be seeing much profit from the deal, but in big European game he could probably help getting them over the line.
