It's a shame how few under 20 make it to the first team
Kenny, Dowell, Lookman, DCL, Davies & Connolly were all in the world cup or in the younger age groups regularly. One person has made it to a regular PL starter, and the thing that stands out is the physical transformation that DCL has done, and so whatever the system and the support that a club and country offers, it's all down to the player
Wasn't Kenny the captain of the World Cup winning team?

Best of luck to the lad, I have no ill will towards him at all, he always put in the required amount of effort. However, I am delighted he has rejected the contract offer, he was an utter liability in too many games. It will also be good for him to be a first team player elsewhere, rather than a bit part player here.

Not good enough for the PL. His ‘performance’ v Burnley nearly got us relegated. Third choice, fourth choice, he can’t have another minute on the pitch for us. When he replaced Mykolenko against Leicester we nearly conceded from the first cross that came in and Barnes put it wide because once again Kenny couldn’t get close enough to stop the cross.

A trier, and I’m sure a decent lad, but just nowhere near the pace or positional intelligence required for premier league football.

Well Lookman hasn’t done too bad for himself playing regular premier league football with Fulham and Leicester City.

Thats true. DCL & Lookman then. Lookman too like kenny is not powerful enough for modern PL. managers & teams want everyone to be the same nowadays - powerful, fast, tall etc and there's no room

With the departure of JJ Kenny the management will know if they feel Patterson has what it takes to make the team.
We know that Coleman is still there, Holgate played at WBA in that position and Godfrey can play there as well.

We won't bring anyone else in unless it is felt Patterson is not ready.

Holgate and Godfrey have proven they cant play there in any meaningful way.

Kenwright gets a lot of credit here, he offered him a small contract, which is a nice thing to do, but it obviously wasn't that big, but from our part it was the right thing to do.
Both player and chairman come out of this with credit
