I can be a friend to you
You know, for someone who works in 'the media' you seem to be putting much less weight on primary sources such as actual photos and video (people climbing fences, an overly full liverpool end etc) and putting significant weight to secondary sources (oliver kay said this, English journalist translates this french minister as saying... )I wasn't at the ground. I actually was off on Saturday, so didn't watch the game. I caught up afterwards, I don't like watching their finals or games if I can avoid it.
Reporters like Oliver Kay (there's an Athletic podcast from, I think, Monday, where he speaks about this) were. As was Rory Smith, as was Henry Winter and Jason Burt. All of them reported that the Liverpool end was nowhere close to full as the match approached, and when the first announcement of the match being delayed was made. Apologies, that may have been 20-30 minutes before KO, not 10!
The French authorities claimed on Monday that 2,700 fans with genuine tickets were turned away. So if we want to say, then we can know that at least 2,700 people bunked in, as a safe assumption. But we don't know when they bunked in, and it certainly wasn't all before the game, or it would have kicked off before 9:36 if they had their end full and the situation outside was 'under control' in the sense of other fans being locked out...
You must be able to understand how frustrating it is for all of this evidence to be out there, and for loads of people on here to ACTUALLY know people who got blag tickets, and the media have all taken a party line to ignore it including, it seems, a so called objective, dispassionate media outsider such as yourself.
In fact it's not like you're ignoring it: you're actively disputing it's an issue, and are doing so across hundreds of forum pages.
It really seems like you are way too deep in the media bubble to be objective. There's a real chance that Liverpool fans could cause another tragedy in the future with their behaviour and you in the media will be complicit. You're on here railing against the French authorities when it's quite possible they prevented a catastrophe last Saturday, knowing what we know about how things have transpired in the past.
I would hope that the replies you've received on here would cause some reflection on your small role in the media whitewash that's clearly happening on this side of the channel.
