It is indeed all ifs and buts. We still have to play Watford away too but no one will say we fancy that trip, the narrative will be that they’re due a win and so we can’t possibly get anything there. If we were in Burnley’s position we’d be acting like a point away at West Ham to leave us trailing them by 3 points having played a game more was an absolute disaster and all but confirmed us as down.

As a fanbase we’re always looking for ways to put us in the worst case scenario. We are incapable of looking at anything objectively. We even had people trying to make out Watford losing to Brentford somehow impacted us negatively. It is tiring to read tbh.
We might be due an away win.

I get our run in on paper is more challenging than Burnley’s, however there are plenty of games we could pick up points in;

Leicester (h); their 3rd game in 6 days after we’ve had a 10 day break
Liverpool (a); I’ve written this off- just hope not to damage the goal difference!
Chelsea (h); we’ve shown we can compete with most teams at home.
Leicester (a); They will have played in Rome on the Thursday
Watford (a); may well be down by then, their home record is as bad as our away record!
Brentford (h); they will be safe, little to play for.
Palace (h); as above, safe with little to play for.
Arsenal (a); hoping we’re ok by then!

Breaking the appalling run of away form by picking up a couple of draws, or even a win, would massively help. Would also take some of the pressure off the home games. As others have mentioned, I think we should be looking to overhaul Leeds as well as growing the gap between us and Burnley.

Here's the difference between us and Burnley: I expect Burnley to not win any game they have. They are dog rough as a team and will only pick up points in dribs and drabs; on the other hand I expect Everton to win a few games they go into because we have as much quality in our team in key areas as Leicester, Palace and Brentford - and we know this lot can rise to the occasion against the Chelsea's, Arsenal's and Liverpool's to take a point or three somewhere.

And I say this knowing how precarous our position still is, and not expectanting to get out of it so much as projecting that we can.

There is a difference between Burnley and Everton and it trumps the different type of run-ins each club has.

Oh, and I cant stress this enough: Leeds are defo in this too.

I'd agree with pretty much all of this - we're in this position because of poor management, injuries, individual errors and a lack of confidence. These things are slowly starting to turn around and the performances and points are following. We're still in a precarious position and fragile in confidence but I think we're getting better and we'll get the points we need.

I just can’t get over the Burnley decision to sack Dyche at this stage. He is effectively their David Moyes and if we had sacked Moyes in a similar situation it would surely have the double impact of infuriating the fan base and demoralising the players which is the last thing you want.

Even if Big Sam came in now, he will have to come in, get the players on side and get them adapting to him at a time when games are virtually every 3 days for most teams.

Not saying it’s impossibly they overtake us but I think the decision makes it less likely
