Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

We only started growing stuff last year. daughter's boyfriend is very into growing veg so he gave us some tomato plants - we killed them! But he also gave us carrot and potatos to grow as well which were a great success. We're growing to try tomatoes again but think we''ll have to buy a little greenhouse for them. We're alos trying to grow melons which if we do will be a decent achievemnet in the usually frozen north east! The melon seeds are currently in a propagator enjoying the sunshine. ?
Great stuff! What happened with the tomato's?

Yes I did. It was really good. We are trying to think of some more things to grow - maybe chilli peppers.
Chilli's are a must but you'd need to get them going asap, or buy young plants from a nursery. Nothing more frustrating in late planting resulting in not enough time for them to fruit and ripen!

Depending on your eating habits I'd say basil is an absolute must, simple and quick, same with rocket and the like. Strawberries are easy too and great for you and the birds to enjoy. :)

You are so lucky mate. I cannot wait to back in the divine beauty of Cumbria. :)
I'm really not mate, the towns dead on its arse, there's nothing here apart from nice countryside. The lakes are nice but I don't live there lol

I suppose if you like seagulls, dog shiz, broken glass and litter as far as the eye can see then I'm very lucky haha Cars are also ruining the aesthetic of the town pavement parking is rife and grass verges all churned up because people are too lazy too walk 10 yards.

@Spadge Vernacular Not sure. I think possibly overwatering and them not being in the right place. We did get one tomato off 3 plants. ? Thanks for the advice. I'll have a look at chilli plants rather than seeds.
There is always Joey's gardening thread for assistance but I'd say to possibly use that in line with a weekly watch of gardeners world. They gave a week by week set of actions throughout the season. It is also quite a meditative watch.

Yep I think Mrs J is in love with Monty Don ......still on the plus side it allows me to listen to my music in another room. Happy days!

Good morning mascoteers on this beautiful day ,a bit jealous of the flower pictures and mention a magnolias flowering .Ours are still indoors and with half a metre of snow still outside that is where they will stay .It is our first year trying the mags as I am sure they wont like the winter but they are getting a bit too tall to bring in next autumn .We will have to see .
I hope all are well and have a great day .
Did you mention magnolias blue?
We have about 20 in our garden and many different varieties. The stalata in the picture is in our Japanese courtyard and has withstood temperatures of -10 ( continuous for 1 week in 2010).

This one is further advanced than the others around the garden because of its sheltered position.

Our favourite it Magnolia Grandiflora , an evergreen which flowers in summer. We have 3 with one over 15 ft tall but it needs a really sunny aspect.20220324_105254.webp

@blue1948 despite living in the frozen North our daffodils are putting on a decent show.

Here are some in our Arboretum. I only planted the trees 18 months ago and it will be 5 years before we see anything worthwhile ( although you can see a pink magnolia I the foreground).

However to give some interest in the meanwhile I planted over 5000 bulbs ( no wonder my back is knackered) and here are some of the daffodils.

We've had snowdrops and crocuses.
Tulips are next then camasias

I've just been asked by a petwear company called scarfandtail if daisy wants some free merchandise and to become an influencer haha.

Not so sure, not one for dressing daisy up like and I'm quite a private person, found it quite funny lol

I've just found their website, I suppose if it's just a scarf no harm done, not dressing her in daft outfits though

Daisy's a star!

Daisy's a star!
Not convinced on the second one though, I'm not replying to either, not comfortable giving out my details online. Seems to be all cats as well hmmm?

Done research and convinced the second one is a scam, says they'll send products if I cover shipping, which would entail me giving my card details so I've told them to jog on and removed them.
