The first bit yes, but the second bit is why this (and loads of other) domestic abuse never gets reported / never ends in a conviction*.

As we both know, many times the victim feels an element of responsibility (be that from their volition or due to manipulation) for the act or helping them to reform.

Many even feel a sense of shame for what has occurred and by reporting the crime, making it public, they will only feel worse. These are all common elements.

From the outside, the comments from her father can appear peculiar, but we may be talking about a parent trying to understand his and his daughters emotions.

Not really - there were papped photos of cops arriving at the family (her family's) house earlier and it looked to be in a very leafy bit of the countryside, which up there usually means a lot of money.

Can only assume that this is his name was released on line with video and voice recording before the police got involved.. millions of people knew about it likley before the police..

"She didn't want it out" - but it's not like all this happened this weekend, looks like she's been sat on a lot of evidence for a while, why would you not want it out there as an unknowing father as she seemingly hadn't gone to the police with it before this happened. Might be the first time the parents had heard about the abuse and if it isn't, shame on them for not doing anything sooner, lad was still playing footie a week ago.

The discussion on this type of story gets into tribalism all too quickly. Depressing. Moral grandstanding about a terrible act is only valid if done in good faith, without tribal motivations and point scoring. A man has been arrested. What he does for a living is way down the list of what should concern people. Yet, here we are, tribal diatribes everywhere you look across the internet.

That statement from the father in the tweet shared here is fake as far as I can tell. I’m loathe to link the Daily Mail but in their article there is no mention from the father that his daughter didn’t want this information to go public or that they were still very much in love. He says it was a shock to him but no more than that. Nothing about Greenwood being “part of the family”.

Don’t know why people take random screenshots on Twitter from nobodies as the gospel.

Do you know what the mum and dad do for a living? Seeing as they aren't married (or engaged IIRC) I doubt Greenwood has bought them a massive house out in the sticks; its much more likely the dad has a good living anyway.

As for the second bit, if she hasn't reported it then that is her choice - its also very common for domestic abuse victims to not want to report what happened even when the cops get involved, for loads of depressing reasons.

The poor fella has no doubt just heard the audio of his daughter being raped by someone he thought of as family and not the monster he turned out to be. Then there's the photos. Then he's got some arsewipe journo ringing him for a statement.


God forbid any of us have to ever endure that, added to the fallout for his daughter and the impact on her and her life and what it's going to take to rebuild it.

I despair of people sometimes.
