Runners and Riders

Martinez - why? Failed miserably last time around. Cannot organise a defence and refuses to pay attention to set pieces. Plays lovely flowing football but we don't have the players to do so. I think we would be nailed on take us down. A short term deal for someone who wants to change our philosophy so fundamentally makes little sense.

Rooney - doing a very good job at Derby but surely needs more experience before taking on the role at Everton. One for the future.

Potter - if you want a young English manager who will change the way we play then he's your man. Unlikely to leave Brighton mid season.

Mourinho - having a rough ride at Roma and you know Moshiri loves a name. I wouldn't rule it out. He'd keep us up but no great long term prospects. Not for me

Lampard - did an OK job at Derby. Did well at Chelsea but Tuchel has shown the difference an elite coach makes. Would work well with younger players and a long term possibility. Probably needs aa bit more experience.

Ferguson - caretaker yes. Permanent manager , not for me. No experience would be a huge risk.

Favre / Kovac - neither have PL experience but both have done very well at different clubs. Both are out of work and available. I'd go for Kovac myself.
Agreed

I think Potter would come tbh. He’s got Brighton mid table - they aren’t going to be challenging for Europe, and as such he’s just not going to offered a job at a top 6 club.

The absolute best his next move would be is the likes of Leicester, Villa or West Ham (all have solid looking managers in place) or.. Everton, who would probably double his wages.
Let it go, Potter isn’t joining Everton any time soon my friend.

I tend to agree but I’d say the main reason is because we can’t afford the compo.
No it isn’t.
As pointed out previously, he turned down Spurs in the summer.
He’s not just going to jump when somebody flashes him a bit of leg, especially unstable clubs like us and Spurs with gung-ho owners.

Linked managers who 100% would not come now - Graham Potter, Christopher Galtier, David Moyes.

We don't have a massive amount to spend so realistically we are looking at a manager who is unattached or an international with little compensation fee. The candidates that would take the job without persuasion in that category - Duncan Ferguson, Roberto Martinez, Wayne Rooney and Lampard.

So what about little mentioned outsiders that might catch the attention of Everton's board?

Unai Emery - experienced head coach of Villareal, europa league specialist his contract expires 2023 would require a DOF to work with.

Andre Villas-Boas - 44 year old free agent had stint at Chelsea but a more successful stint at Spurs recently resigned from Marseille over lack of control in player recruitment, doesn't show much desire in returning to England.

Simone Inzaghi - head coach of inter Milan being pursued by champions league clubs, contract 2023.

Erik Ten Hag - highly spoken about and expected to take a big European job in the summer, its unlikely everton would appeal to Erik especially with the treatment of Marcel Brands. Contract until 2023.

Diego Simeone - leaving Athletico Madrid in the summer 2022 with no apparent destination. Difficult to see Diego working with Alex Iwobi and Solomon Rondon but we can dream.

Lucien Favre - 64 year old Swiss manager formerly of Dortmund. Free agent could be seen as a steady pair of hands to take the coaching while everton restructure.

Non of them other than AVB and Favre would join. Favre is past his best and AVB would be a terrible appointment. Jesse Marsch is free. Can rebuild a young squad. Wildcard option i would like is Andoni Iraola.

You do get the situation Rooney has at Derby right?

Lampard took over a playoff team that was in good nick slightly underperforming

Rooney has taken over at a club in liquidation, zero transfers, free and academy players, that if it wasn't for points deductions they'd be 10th in the league by now.

Lampard had it easy, loaned some top Chelsea academy players and failed to get them promoted.

Rooney has a chance to do the impossible and get a club out of relegation after a 21 point deduction. Has them playing better than most sides in the championship. Hard to beat.

They're not unwarranted shouts

Saving a Championship team from relegation does not qualify you to manage Everton.

If he wasn’t who he is, it wouldn’t even be a consideration.

imo opinion the most logical thing to do is wait until the summer and then sound out getting potter

potter should be our number 1 target and if he is not interesting in leaving brighton mid-way through the season then i suggest giving the job on an interim basis to big dunc and baines until the summer and then go after potter in the summer and if he is still not interested fair enough we can then see how rooney did with derby and possibly explore that option or maybe someone really good will become available in the summer that might be interested in joining us like ragnick

How much managerial experience did Arteta have taking over Arsenal?

To me, when you're in a situation like we are in now it's about knowing the players and how to get the best out of them to get out of the predicament. Ferguson has that.

You get your lampards etc in now, they're not set up or ready to get a team to fight off a relegation threat. It's why owners look to Big Scam or Hodgeson and the likes cos they need to a job first, not look after their "brand" of football.

Arteta is a terrible example though because after he took over they nosedived. If we were to do that under Rooney or Ferguson we’d be in the bottom three.

Potter would be nuts to think about coming here. Plus how much of Brightons quality recruitment is down to him? If he doesnt sign the players then we would need to bring Ashworth and the recruitment team with him. Cant be getting potter then signing players who dont play his style, which is exactly what this club would do.

Maybe the answer is to go for Potter and Ashworth. Doubt very much Brighton would accept that, then would they even leave.
