If Everton fans know our FFP problems so will a professional football club like Villa.

He was being flogged to bring in 3-4 signings this window everyone knows that. If Benitez had £50+ million to spend this summer I still think Digne would be here.

It's been orchestrated to get him out as we need the dough to strengthen imo.

Well in my humble opinion, Digne likes to play in the opposition half, rather than his own, and when the ball gets behind him, he prefers to amble back, rather than burst a lung.

Be absolute scenes if he doesn’t leave and says he’s going to see out his contract.

Might not be that surprising. Rafael may be gone in the summer and Digne has about 3-4 years left on his deal. Sit tight for 6 months and then he's back in the team.

A very very odd move from Digne himself.

Couple of ways to look at it:

1) This shows that our level always was Digne's level. He can't get to a top club because they don't want him at a fair asking price. The top club he was at sold him to us for a reason.

2) Digne wants to get away from Benitez badly enough that he'll make a lateral move to do it.

Since we're not privy to the negotiations, we don't know which is true. There will probably be fifty pages after this of posts trying to claim one or the other without real supporting evidence.

Devil’s advocate a bit but if we had signed Coutinho on loan and were moving on to sign a left back who is turning 29 soon also on massive wages we’d be saying that the club hadn’t learned any lessons. Villa are doing exactly what we all want Everton to stop doing.

No they are not. Gerrard will get something out of Coutinho no doubt. And Digne will improve them also. Over the last 5 years I’ve been excited for about 3 of our signings and most Everton fans have thought WTF about the rest. Villa have signed some very good players .

To be fair, he's hitting 29 and on mad wages.

Still, we've got to be asking for close to £30m.

We've just paid £20m for a player we can only hope develops into a player close to Digne.
