The Ale House - Is it even a thing now?

A lot of 'traditional' pubs are just out of fashion & outdated in general now. It's all about theme bars & restaurants and loads of them keep popping up around the more cosmopolitan areas of the city especially.

You can get some nice pubs out there but it requires the owners to spend a bit of dough on modernising them.

themed bars are very '00, are they still about? they never last more than 2 years

There's different levels. A lot of the 'theme' bars that pop up these days attract the younger crowd and they tend to thrive.

That Boujee gaff in Chavasse Park is making an absolute killing right now cos all the young birds like to pose there. Granted, it's part of a chain and one already exists in Manchester, but regardless these are the types of gaffs that people flock to now.

Stick another £2 onto that in London mate and even more in Dublin.

I've always found, the London price thing a bit of a myth really.

Sure there are some places near the Thames that charge 6 for a peroni or something but that's the same in most cities.

I'd rather not be hanging out with people who can remember how much they paid for a drink in Scunthorpe three years ago or people who act like an extra 40p will change their life.

The Caledonia in the city centre is another good example.

Brewery wanted to sell it and turn it into flats and a shop.

Eight years on and it’s still thriving and one of the most eclectic pubs in the whole city.

The ale is always good, as is the food and it’s incredibly cheap for town.

Plus it’s one of the only pubs in town, that openly welcomes dogs too.

I'll have to give it a go next time I'm in Liverpool. Last time I was up that way was taking Mrs CT to Zorba's about 15-20 years ago! It looks like there's a good few boozers gathered there.

The “ Georgian Quarter “ as it’s now called, is without doubt the nicest part of town.

You’ve got the Caledonia, the Blackburne Arms next to each other and the Belvedere a couple of minutes away.

Peter Kavanaghs over the road, the Phil, Ye Cracke, the Whisky bar in Rodney St and the Pilgrim, that’s before even going anywhere else, The Fly, the Roscoe Head, the Casa, the Everyman, the Cambridge etc

My favourite part of town now by a mile.

Safe, by and large decent people and not full of dangerous beak heads.
