There are a lot of teenagers and players that turned 20 this season starting for premier league clubs at the momentHow many premier league teams have teenagers starting games as a main striker?
How many premier league clubs have teenagers starting games at centre back?
This obsession Everton fans have with how our managers use youth players is bizarre. We’ve literally used so many of them in the past even when some of them haven’t been good enough by a long way.
Under Moyes we had kids in the team all the time. We started one season with Baxter Gosling Rodwell all playing despite none of them looking ready. Vaughan and Anichebe were barely prem standard, then teenage Barkley got a go. Even back then though it was always ‘it’s not enough, he doesn’t play youth’.
Since then we’ve thrown in so many players DCL Holgate Stones Lukaku Davies Kenny Gordon Branthwaite despite some of them being nowhere near good enough for us at various times. Yet still, the criticism is always about the 17 year old lad who isn’t starting games.
I don’t see many other teams in the premier league playing this amount of kids. The majority of managers will always choose experienced players over raw kids to start games. They do this all the time, almost every single manager does this yet our fan base gets uniquely annoyed as to why a teenage striker isn’t suddenly getting picked every week because he had a good showing in one game. It’s a bizarre mentality.
This is true. Most Managers will pick experience, especially if the Manager is still new to the squad. How many premier league teams have teenagers starting games as a main striker?

Not sure Benitez can take any credit for that result. He's stubbornly refused to use the young players even when the only other options boiled down to Iwobi and Rondon. Tonight he didn't even have Rondon available so he had no choice. I'm not going to pretend that he's some sort of tactical genius for benefitting from playing players that he was forced into selecting.
Rafael played the youth card because he had no other cards to play. His intuition is to play
tried and trusted as he might see it or uninterested and unreliable as I see them.
I hope he sees this season as a bust and gives Brainthwaite, Dobbin and others to get quality time on the pitch. I would also include Gbamin who needs loads of game time to get ready for next year.
But my bet is that he reverts to Roldan, Holgate, Iwobi, before the young lads.
I’ve literally made very similar points to yours regarding youth before. They are generally given a chance if they’re good enough. In this instance however, its less about how the youth are used and more about how players like Rondon are being used. He’s played enough times now to know he’s generally worthless. The young guys might be too but we don’t know yet. That’s the difference. How many premier league teams have teenagers starting games as a main striker?

The thing is, if you have a thin squad and then you pick up injuries, you play your back ups. If 2 of your back ups turn out to be absolutely garbage, as for instance Rondon and Iwobi have, instead of persisting in picking them week after week, surely you must give the young players a chance. I’m not suggesting that they should play once the regular fist choice players are fit again, but, they should have been given a chance long before now.How many premier league teams have teenagers starting games as a main striker?
