I don't think he's making it up either. I do think Digne is just showing Benitez the consequences of his man management style.
He's used injuries as a reason for poor performances then choses to drop a fit first team player due to a disagreement. Labels said player that he was not playing for the "team" - basically saying, we don't need you.
So as we're thin on the ground, the manager decides to bring him back in the fold. Said player has basically said no.
Consequences to actions in my book. Digne knows he'll have plenty of top clubs after him, so why play for this manager who has questioned his commitment for the team.
I agree with a lot of your points and they are well put.
For me, if he’s good enough to have plenty of top clubs after him, he doesn’t need to behave in this manner, because he’d get a move anyway.
He’s played with those players, his team mates for several years. He’s vice captain and always wanted an affinity with the fans.
It’s not just the manager he’s playing for. He’s playing for the fans, his team mates too.
Pulling a sickie when we are in dire straights doesn’t sit right with me, regardless of a ‘spat’ with the manager.
For me it shows petulance, toys out of pram type behaviour.
Man up, prove the manager wrong and show character/ leadership.
