Also, if anyone was in any doubt that Bottas' incompetence has cost his team the WDC this year, this should put it beyond doubt. Perez was able to hold up Hamilton for 6 seconds on a shot set of softs. That, as it turns out, was crucial in keeping Verstappen inside Hamilton's window for the subsequent VSC period. Imagine if Bottas was actually a factor in this race and had done the same to Verstappen - it would have been put beyond all doubt.
He should have been fired when he took that fastest lap from Lewis when he was told twice to not go for it, cannot remember what race it was then he was grinning like a Cheshire cat when asked about it post race, and how he held off Max with ease when he won in Turkey, when he had to help Lewis he pretty waved Max through.

Pretty much downed tools when he was told Russell was replacing him, absolute pathetic attitude from him this season.

Can someone with greater knowledge than me explain why , once a safety car comes into play any time advantage built up is lost ?

Surely if a driver has built up a 20 sec advantage they should maintain that on the restart of racing.

Here is why the folk on reddit think any appeal will fail:

The clerk of the course shall work in permanent consultation with the Race Director. The Race
Director shall have overriding authority in the following matters and the clerk of the course may
give orders in respect of them only with his express agreement:
a) The control of practice, sprint qualifying session and the race, adherence to the timetable
and, if he deems it necessary, the making of any proposal to the stewards to modify the
timetable in accordance with the Code or Sporting Regulations.
b) The stopping of any car in accordance with the Code or Sporting Regulations.
c) The stopping of practice, suspension of a sprint qualifying session or suspension of the
race in accordance with the Sporting Regulations if he deems it unsafe to continue and
ensuring that the correct restart procedure is carried out.
d) The starting procedure.
e) The use of the safety car.

I've seen this clause elsewhere, but from what they said on TV this would refer to deploying the SC and shouldn't negate the rules when it is deployed.

Otherwise, it's a simple get out clause for the RD to do as he or she wishes regardless of the rules.

There is no explanation, it's just a silly rule.
A fairer way would be to stop the race and give each driver an X amount of head start over the driver behind. So you are as you were.
There is the option of a virtual safety car where you are just told to drive a certain pace. Therefore keeping position and time. But you can't really do that if there is a car and recovery workers on the track.

I think the point is, when it comes to matters of the race, the race director gets to have final say.

Either way, I doubt the title will be taken from Max, if anything, it will prompt a clarification to these sporting regs.

And no matter the outcome, Netflix wins
