Andy van der Mayde was a real car crash signing
For a long time I have considering the fact we have had a lack of truely world class players at Everton. Only Kanchelskis and teenage Rooney meet that criteria in the modern day.
However we have had an abundance of good players that were well past their best while gracing the everton shirt. Wondered if anyone could improve on this list
pretty sure defensively there are players I have missed:
Gk - Westerveld
Rb - Sidibe (World Cup winner, bit part loan player)
Cb - Ashley Williams (stretching it a little)
Cb - gough
Lb - Kenny sansom
Rm - James
Cm - rooney (second spell)
Cm - gascoigne
Lm - ginola
Cf - e’to
Cf - mark hughes
Who have I missed?
Paul Gerrard & Richard Wright both ranked as Englands best up and coming goalkeepers when we signed them! I'd put either if them ahead of Westerveld!
Graveson on his second spell couldnt run
Roysten Drenthe maybe too?
I never saw him play but i noticed Kenny Sansom had a brief spell at us just before i started getting interested

Scored at old Trafford in a rare win.….Mo Johnson, past his sell-by date when we got him & £1m was costly for us.
Add Simonsen to the list of up and coming goal keepers we destroyed in the 1990sPaul Gerrard & Richard Wright both ranked as Englands best up and coming goalkeepers when we signed them! I'd put either if them ahead of Westerveld!

He certainly lived his dream!Champ man legend.
Rod Bellfit was past his sell by date at 16.….Mo Johnson, past his sell-by date when we got him & £1m was costly for us.
Rod Bellfit would be in any worst eleven of any team anywhere in the world at any time.If we're talking about real world class players who came here when past their best we can't include players like Baardson, Gerrard,
Wright, Curran and Bellfit, amongst others, who were never world class and maybe not even past their best.
And in a swap for David Johnson. Which idiot thought that was a good idea?Rod Bellfit would be in any worst eleven of any team anywhere in the world at any time.
I think at the time Harry Catterick was ill. Either that or he was on crack cocaine. And in a swap for David Johnson. Which idiot thought that was a good idea?
