Is it?
The Newcastle appointment had to be someone like Howe to be honest. Howe is a what i'd call an "unglamourous" appointment.
He's low key, not got much of a High Level playing calibre for the spotlight, hasn't managed a huge side, and won't try signing any superstars. It's perfect for what Newcastle right now.
Or Gerrard, the superstar, who will attract the media circus, the pressure of "can he succeed, and replace Klopp", getting bad players to shine, finding form in a new league to manage in.
Gerrard has a lot more to lose by taking the Newcastle job, than he does for the Villa job, who are probably 3 steps ahead of Newcastle, in that you're probably 3-4 players off being a side who can consistently challenge for Europe, still has a significant budget and doesn't have issues of pressure of being newly crowned richest club in the land.
