That's two ifs though, Dave: if we win and if City drop points - three if you toss in if Brighton don't win.
If we weren't so decimated by injuries, I'd fully demand the three points at home to Norwich, but given we are - and given our appalling ability, last season, to lose to dross at home - I am not sure how we can expect to win this after our capitulation to lower-league QPR in midweek. Put simply, our squad in decimated form isn't a class above Norwich.
I expect a tight game with our second-rate squad confirming its abject mediocrity by dropping more points. A win would be marvelous in the circumstances and a real boost, but our issue is the same as it's been for a while: we have far too many players who plenty of our fan-base overrate to the extent that they are blinded to their inadequacy. Tom Davies would, in all fairness, not be assured of a place in the Norwich side, yet he could well be in ours tomorrow. Who knows, we might have a good day and Norwich might sink, but I am not at all confident in this depleted Everton squad. Without DCL and Richarlison, not to mention James and the expensive former Swansea City player, we're utterly ordinary. Norwich will fancy breaking their duck. Benitez will need to work a bit of magic because he'll be waiting a while for Alex Iwobi to.
