These were all 5 or more years ago, I believe he’s talking specifically about what we’re doing right now. Nkounkou doesn’t count because he’s just been farmed out to the Belgian league and that lad from Sunderland will never kick a ball for us.
That's right, stones, dcl, Holgate all great examples. Lookman, Vlasic too even though we paid proper money and they didn't work out - feels like it was the right gamble to take. It just feels like we have stopped in the last 2/3 years.

That’s fine but none of those players you listed above were signed as academy players. Lookman cost £11m for Christ’s sake.

DCL's first 8 appearances were for the U23's
Stones' first 12 apps were for the U21's (Signed in Jan, didn't play first team till the next season)
Holgate's first 17 apps were for the U21's (One whole season)

They were all first team players for their current clubs, ergo not academy signings.

99% of youngsters are a punt.
They must have something otherwise we've all slipped through the net.
I watch Scottish football and 16/17 year old talent does shine through.
It how its nurtured,or missed in the case of our club.
I remember a couple of players from Dundee Utd being sold for relatively pennies, now one is captain of Scotland.
