I think the blame is on Brands and Moshiri. A lot of people some on this forum felt Moshiri had got to a point where he is happy to just try and remain around mid table in the premier league till the stadium is built. A lot of people felt the appointment of Benitez proved that they might have been right with are summer business. That’s fine if that’s what they want we as fans could say it’s all because of FFP but all the talk from the club of we want to challenge at the top of the league is just false you don’t challenge spending only 1.5m in a summer window. If we keep standing still while teams around us improve by the time the stadium is finished. We could find ourselves in a very dangerous position.

Big loser who literally does nothing but pick up a wage and a seat on the board.

Doesn't pick the manager, that's Moshiri.

Doesn't pick the signings, that's clearly the manager.

Doesn't build toward a sustainable squad or consistent style of play, it changes every summer.

He clearly doesn't sell the players either as he doesn't know how.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Moshiri has a precontract sale agreement in place for the club, new stadium and Finch Farm with a clause that Brands comes too.

If all that is true (which may well be the case), then the only real criticism of him should be that he hasn't resigned. It's hard to knock someone for not doing their job well whilst also pointing out that they are actively being prevented from doing their job well by the people who employ them.

Brands is no different to anyone else at the club at the moment, he has some success and some failures; to be fair, as a DOF you'd expect that anyway, it is never going to be all amazing. Typically, he gets a kicking for the crap signings (Delph, Iwobi) etc, but doesn't get credit from some for the good ones ("they must have been the manager's signings").

I suspect we will never know if he would be a really good DOF as he will never be given the opportunity to do the job properly.

We’re three years into his tenure. Based on his new 3-year deal, halfway through at this stage, yet there is no discernible plan, strategy or structure when it comes to recruitment. We have gone backwards in terms of league placing and it’s unlclear what he actually does

Yeah seem to be undermined all the time as well, wether it’s transfers or picking the manager and doesn’t even run the academy

He's rubbish but Moshiri won't let him actually do the job of a DoF, so he was doomed to fail. Signing the new contract, however, means that he doesn't care that he's not being allowed to do his job so all sympathy (from me at least) evaporated. Moshiri will sink this club.

Underwhelming.

No idea why he got promoted to the board so quickly, and when that happens, he has to be held accountable for the lack of joined up thinking in recent managerial appointments and transfer strategy's - which has lead to the mess of this window just gone and the issues of FFP.

If he isn't accountable, then he should resign as surely the point of his job is to be responsible for all things football strategy related.

As regards the signings, some decent (Godfrey, Gray *early days), some still to be judged (Gbamin) and some pretty down right awful and unexplainable really (Delph, Iwobi *recent form discluded etc...)

However, had hoped he would have uncovered some real hidden gems which so far, he has not
