ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

People don't always mean 25/30 years when talking about 'generations' you've just created that scenario to make your point. He's not the best in the last 10 years but I suspect thats far more likely what Garth Crooks meant.

Also, he didn't say he's the best defender in a generation. He said players like him come around once in a generation.

I'd say generation is generally 25-30 years. Like most people assume their parents are a generation up, and kids are a generation below, it is generally 25-30 years. Either way, it's a wholly reasonably assumption to make isnt it? I've never known anyone refer to 10 years as a generation.

As for the 2nd part, we are really splitting hairs here. If he only comes around once in a generation, in what context does this make sense if hes not the best player?

While you are making a decent effort of defending what are some ridiculous comments from Crooks, they are absolutely ridiculous. And as I keep saying, just because you or I think they might be ridiculous, it does not mean VVD is not an excellent player.

Just because I dont think he is the best player of the last generation, or a once in a generation player doesnt mean hes not an excellent player. We dont live in such a binary world where it's either or. A 3rd position can occur, and I think it is possible to disagree with the likes of crooks and lots of Kopites, while still acknowledging that the player is obviously very good.

At Celtic Van Dijk is a good defender, at Southampton he's a good defender, joins the RS and in the eyes of bellend pundits like Crooks he immediately becomes 'world class' and the best centre - half that has ever played the game. it's just another example of a pundit getting well and truly up the arse of the RS to get the plaudits off their fans.

It's either plaudits or death threats
