I guess with you guys too, you were always spending against the Grealish money one way or the other - whether he goes this window, or next year (assuming no horrific injury etc).

Basically, investing against pretty much a sure thing and you do have some wiggle room anyway even without that big sale.
I suspect we were hoping for the Grealish money but until it is signed there are no guarantees. He could fail a medical and if we have gone way over FFP then we would be fcuked so I can't really see us spending too much before he sells. He did miss 3 months last season and he missed 3 months the year we got promoted. I don't think he has ever played a full season for us. I suspect we are flying very very close to FFP threshold but I also think our CEO knows how to manage FFP. Saying all that, if we do manage to take 100m from City then our finances will be looking a lot better

We have missed out on McCarthy. Celtic snapped him up. Hee hee
You guys certainly sound very disillusioned. I consider Everton a big-spending club with lots of potential. From a rivalry perspective I have always been happy that you don't seem to be able to get the right manager in place. I see Everton as a club that Villa is able to catch up on and compete but imo, if u had the right manager then I think u would pull away and make that very difficult.
Regarding transfers, I can't believe that you will not sign a few big players this window, I expect to see some quality added which just makes our catchup that little bit too difficult next season

Without knowing the lad, other than some interviews during the Euros, I reckon an FA Cup as a Villa player would trump multiple pots at City. For him that is.

I think it would too. Jack's great great grandfather won the FA cup for Villa in 1905 and got an England cap so he is Villa through and through. I love him as a player but I think he should join City. He will win very little, if anything at Villa but he will win a few cups, the Premier League and probably the Champions League with City. I think his ability as a footballer deserves this so I wish him well. Also, Villa are nowhere near good enough to be holding on to him. We were in the Championship a couple of years ago and we need to remember that. We are building a decent squad now and I think we are better off with 100m to strengthen a few positions rather than holding on to one player and paying him 200k a week. We are not a top 6/8 club (yet)

We spent a lot of money on crap and now we can’t spend any more because we can’t shift the crap. Mid table will be where we reside for the foreseeable future while we try and get our house in order.
