We have to reduce losses. We are allowed £105m over three years, we have declared £240m losses over the last two years.

We have to reduce wages and sell players for more than their book value.

Sell to buy.

@Neiler Did a very good summary recently where taking into account COVID/stadium costs written off we're probably £10 million or so here or there from being over the limits.

Assuming the new stadium naming rights will commence this year once proper work begins on site to " help" towards "costs" of the ground and a reduction of the wage bill I imagine we'll have a small amount to spend this summer but getting big wages off the books will be a big help long term.

It’s all semantics though. The net result is we can’t spend willy nilly without generating some revenue.
No team on the planet can spend willy nilly without generating revenue.

Skint is having to sell players to balance the books, selling your best players for big fees and not replacing them or buying far worse for little as you can’t afford it. Skint isn’t having money to buy players but having to reduce the wage bill beforehand so it doesn’t increase. It’s common sense and rules that all clubs on the planet should abide by otherwise you’ll start seeing clubs being shutdown for good.

so no it’s not semantics at all.

It is semantics. People are using the term skint as short hand for the fact our spending is constrained by financial rules.

Getting into a lather over it is rather pointless.

We are financially embarrassed at this moment in time:(

Every journalist connected with Everton says we can buy without the need for sales though.

Of course we need to sell in order to keep our wage bill down and reduce losses, and probably stay compliant, but all the evidence (apart from one random Dutch journalist) points to selling not being a pre-requisite of buying this summer.
