Walcot wasn’t even here last year and we’ve replaced him with Townsend, on a third of the wage and with one of the highest crossing accuracies in the league last year.
bernard was so crap he was totally overlooked, even when we were desperate, he’s been replaced by someone with a point to prove on a fraction of the wage

the squad is far better off this way
Behave

Oh ok, so because we are saving wages then buying bad players is good.

That seems to be the general take on things lol

Step 1: Offload deadwood players.

Step 2: Sign deadwood players for similar wages

Step 3: They dont need to be good becauae theyre cheap so lets get loads of them.

Step 4: If any come good then its a bonus

Step 5: All deadwood players are now worth millions of £ despite no other clubs wanting them.

Fast forward to Step 6: No one wants them.

Nope, Swapping dead wood with cheaper dead wood that may come good while allowing us to fill other, more important areas of the squad is good though.

It is not ideal, but needs must.

I would rather free up wages for a major signing than keeping Bernard for another 2 years

This is illogical.

We can just sell Bernard + someone else and replace with 1 player of superior quality. Our squad is big enough to do this.

If we're knowingly buying deadwood, we should all give up now as any club should always be looking at improving rather than trying to fill places.

This seems like a road to disaster.

To do that would mean signing 1 wide player which leaves us even more bare on the bench.

Thats the provlem mate we can't spend money on 2x wide players + Gray.

What we are doing is sensible providing we have money to bring in a quality RW for the starting 11.

Our squad is big enough??? Have you seen our squad? It’s full of over paid lazy tits, we need to get rid of the wage bill and invest the saving in quality starting players. Basically, WCA rly what we have started in motion, get rid of people that were not even playing and freeeing up huge amounts for actual players
I know this is too complicated for you, but trust me and the club, it is the right way

I don't know if Demarai Gray is going to be a success or not. But based on his potential and fee, for a promising, 24 year old English player that many on here would've been happy to throw £20m+ at only a few years ago, it is 100% the type of deal we should be looking at. Assuming his wage is considerably reducing that of Bernard's, who we have been paying over £500k per month for the last 3 years, it's definitely a sensible bit of business. I honestly don't know what some of you expect.

This is how it works on here during transfer windows. There are a handful of players that are collectively agreed as ‘must buys’ for each window. For the last few it’s been Grealish, before that it was Zaha, this window it’s Bailey. Almost every single transfer post about any player will be followed up by ‘we should be going for x instead’

Then there’s the next acceptable layer. This is a group of players between 20-24 who don’t play in England (as long as they’re not already in that first group). People have decided that these players are class even though the majority have never watched them. The only acceptable fees for these players are between 15 mill and 30 mill. Some of these plyers might not even have made their nationals quads for euros or be first team for who they play for, it doesn’t matter, they are indisputably class. God forbid they are linked to either Liverpool or Leicester either because this just sends them straight into group 1 of a player that will be mentioned all day every day until the window closes.

Anything outside of those two groups though and the signing is immediately written off as complete rubbish before a ball has been kicked. Barcelona cast offs aren’t welcome, unknown teenagers on cheap deals not welcome, lads from the championship not welcome (despite the success of DCL Stones Holgate), proven players from other prem teams to cover squad gaps not welcome. Player who might not have settled anywhere not yet fulfilling potential so available for cheaper not welcome.

The list of players we would be able to buy and be met with approval by some on here is absolutely minuscule and at the moment seemingly only consists of Leon Bailey.

GRAY IN FLORIDA FOR EVERTON MEDICAL

Bayer Leverkusen
winger Demarai Gray has arrived in Florida to complete his move to Everton

The deal, which is expected to be announced later today, will cost Everton around £1.6m and Gray will sign an initial two-year contract.

It’s bizarre
The way our fans cling to every negative and ignore any possible positive. As you say, unless it the flavour of the month signing, he’s doomed before he starts, regardless of savings and the fact they are better suited to our new manager.
More annoying, when said players come good, the moaners disappear.

people actually questioning andros improving the squad over theo, who wasn’t even here last year

I don’t know why I reply to them, let them wallow in their misery

Two years, better than the three that was bandied around
