Unesco World Heritage status - Blame Everton

They must have been on holiday when this was granted planning permission

A bunch of Toff's, who have never been to Liverpool in their lives.

I will raise a glass to their health (NOT!) when I take my seat at BMD.

Going to be on BBC news at 6 in the next few minutes - the headline they teed it up with was “Liverpool loses it’s World Heritage Status due to new developments on the waterfront”!

UNESCO unfortunately is yet another example of the type of organisation peopled by fanatical zealots who take their culture protectionist cause to extremes to such an extent that progress for the general good can fall foul of their pure uncompromised aims.

An unbending extremist organisation full of people who won't bend an inch from their purist ideals, even when they're reasoning is clearly faulty. An obstacle to the general good and prosperity of so many.

UNESCO is now the byword for a nasty road blockage, an organisation that has sadly lost it's way and is out of touch with the real world.

It'll suit the BBC's biased agenda right down to the ground, it's one of their favourite organisations, the BBC has always had a liberal purist bias where idealism triumphs over reality and practicality. Tbh although I read it from time to time, the Guardian is much the same, idealist aims over pragmatism and practicality every time, both outlets really get me wound up tbh

Clip of Chinese UNESCO Chairman saying - “Liverpool is deleted”! Then over to Wayne the Heritage campaigner - “it’s devastating for Liverpool and an embarrassment” ! And yes Evertons plans for BMD got a mention.

They have to justify their reason for existing. That's the sole reason for this.

In reality, UNESCO and everything it does and stands for has no value whatsoever. Life moves on; they don't recognise that, as their standard of excellence is antiquated.

If Liverpool did all they could to retain UNESCO heritage status, the city would be a technological, industrial and overall economic backwater.

They're an irrelevance who deserve to be laughed at for this, and to everyone's credit they are laughing at them.

Tourist attraction might be putting it a bit strong but IDK - the waterfront location is a big deal so given time the area could change a lot.

Have you been to the Etihad? That area was rough AF before the commonwealth games, proper survival horror. A lot of investment from City, massive training facility, plus tramline, the velodrome, rebuilt park - I mean it is in no way a tourist attraction but compared to what it was it's night and day.
Oh absolutely mate that area looks a million times better as will the area around BMD.

So you refute the facts ?

What facts? All I see there is sneering contempt. UNESCO's comments are presented as fact, like this.

The UN agency said the plans had led to “serious deterioration and irreversible loss” to the area’s outstanding universal value, along with “significant loss to its authenticity and integrity”.

Yet he doesn't elaborate on what that 'outstanding universal value' is. Which, lest we forget, includes a sewage works and derelict nothing.

Meanwhile, he comes out with nuggets like this, again presented as 'fact':

The jewel in Peel’s cut-price crown is intended to be Everton’s new stadium, sadly of much the same quality, conceived as a great silver slug marooned on top of a vaguely warehousey brick box – a strained “contextual” nod to its surroundings.

Which is opinion, subjective. All of it is. The 'three disgraces' next to the 'three graces' etc. is all subjective.

What it comes down to is elitism and archaism. "Old is good, new is bad". UNESCO were against Everton's stadium plans before the plans were even unveiled, which tells you all you need to know about the motivation.
