I’m not a fan of Benitez as a man but the guy has won the Champions League, the FA Cup and La Liga (TWICE). He’s been to TWO European Cup finals, obviously winning one of them. He also recently won the Europa League and established Newcastle in the Premier League with the smallest budget in the league before they inevitably went down.

Would Potter, with his 25% win rate, be better?

Every kopite I know is fuming at the prospect of him joining us, which can only be a good thing.
Great post.

It should be noted that he won La Liga with an un-fancied Valencia team that had very little financial backing.

I think people are underestimating our fans.

If Benitez chooses to join our club he will get the full backing of us fans and will be given every chance to succeed. If we end up fighting relegation then obviously people will turn against him then and rightly so, but we fans will at least give him a chance.

We’re not kopites.
Yes, if he’s appointed we as fans will back him. I’m certain of that.

Evertonians aren’t stupid. As you say: Evertonians know that deriding their own manager would just damage team morale and make us look like kopites.

I think I’ve come to acceptance over FSW and I feel dirty!

Let’s just hope if he does come in they back him well and get some good players in, he gets us consistently into Europe then in a few years we can get a really top manager.

What have you done to me Everton... going for a shower

….not much happening to the market over the last 24 hours, if anything Benitez firming up a touch despite reports saying he’s out of the running.

"FSW" has more pedigree than any manger we've appointed since Kendall, bar Carlo.
Literally no-one we've appointed has done anything like what Benitez has done in the game. Every kopite I've spoken to can't believe we're getting him, they rate him that highly.

But somehow us knowledgeable blues with all our trophies and success over the last 26 years know much better than everyone else.

I reiterate yet again - he's not who I'd choose to manage the club - mainly because it's clearly an incredibly divisive appointment and it's just not worth the mess it's going to cause.

But to suggest that Benitez doesn't have the quality or pedigree to manage Everton is a bit of joke tbh.
What would the reaction to the appointment of Benitez be if he had never managed Liverpool?

Would it be the same as when we appointed Carlo ? , which was overwhelmingly positive.

Carlo was/is as much an over the hill manager as Benitez and for me that is the concern but I felt that Carlo had enough knowledge, experience and respect in the game that he would improve us substantially, I still believe that would have happened.
How can I make a different argument about Benitez ?

It all comes back to the Liverpool connection and in particular one two minute interview which he gave in a fit of anger and frustration.
I don't want him because it would be a very divisive appointment splitting the support base and initially at least creating a bad atmosphere at the club. There is also of course the risk that he is actually well past his sell by date, but then every appointment is a risk anyway as we certainly have found out 5o our cost.

I think Moshiri has made the decision that he wants managers with experience and pedigree to spend the money he is investing as far too much has already been wasted.

Of course, if Benitez is appointed and we are lucky enough that he dramatically improves the fortunes of our club it will be the ultimate sickened for the fans of our neighbouring club.

Everybody has an opinion about this and I respect that, I certainly am not trying to change the mind of anybody else just trying to clarify my own thoughts about where we are.
This is my thought process and some idiot trying to insult it will not change it.
But, anybody giving a reasoned disagreement is more than welcome.

I am against him on moral and footballing grounds. I can imagine how awful the football will be because he is a negative dinosaur of a manager who has failed in the last 2 jobs he’s been at. It’s completely unnecessary for us to be seeking to employ ex Liverpool managers who have insulted us and who are clearly only interested in joining us because it’s close to home and with the prospect of getting on board the gravy train again.
