They're only good when they're juiced. All through the cold war they were juicing - as were loads of teams.

In 2018 they ran about 6 miles more per match than anyone else.

Blokhin, Belanov, Zavarov, Alenikov, Kipiani, Dasayev (The only goalie I put as being in the same general vicinity of Southall) all tremendous footballers. Funnily enough only one of them was Russian though. They should have done better seeing as they had access to the best players from 11 nations or however many it was.
