Stewards at Old trafford

As a steward at Old Trafford for the past 4 years, and a steward at Wigan for the past 3, i can't say i know of any choreographed movement during the game at any stadia. I can't even think of any reason why you would have noticed it. I suspect you aren't actually talking about the stewards, and perhaps you are talking about the outside security team 'CES' (Controlled event solutions).

At each stadium, you have safety stewards who operate inside the stadium, away from the pitch. Crowd / General stewards who are supposed to stand with their backs to the game, facing the crowd to spot any infringements, potential hazards or trouble makers (though the majority stand there watching the game). And you also have an outside security team, charged with searching fans entering the ground and throwing out any persistant trouble makers. These are usually ex-forces or part time doormen. Either way, stewards wear bright orange jackets and CES wear bright yellow.

I suspect its the security team that you have spotted moving up and down the stadium, this may be part of some tactic they employ when they are understaffed, to ensure all areas of the crowd are covered. Thats just a guess though, i could be wrong.

You'd be surprised, at all the grounds i've worked at, the home fans are actually in a minority on the staff. The thinking is that if you've got all Man United fan stewards then they'll be less likely to do their job. There are United fans, but the overwhelming majority consists of Citeh, Oldham, Stockport, Liverpool and Everton fans. You get the odd Notlob, Gooner and Chelski fan too. At least two games a year i get paid to watch Everton, and the rest of the time your just getting paid to watch Football. Its a cushy little job if you love match day and watching Football. Obviously if the only Football you watch is Everton, then its probably not for you.

I find it hard to belive that any true fan of the RS, City or Everton would work at Old Trafford

Believe it, lid. One lad wears his stewards pass on a bit of ribbon with the City logo plastered all over it. Another lad wears his Liverpool shirt under his jacket. Since when did supporting your team involve hating the rest ?. Its not like i'm stood cheering the goals with a 'King Eric scarf' around me singing 'Glory Glory', sometimes you're not even working with United fans, you might be with the away support. Its a good laugh once or twice a week, getting paid to watch Football.

I watch Football every day anyway, might as well get paid for it
