Ah apologies, they sold 80% for $600m, then the whole thing (including their remaining 20%) was resold for $3.5 billion

So they got $1.3 billion total.

Not a bad fee to just allow people to use your name.
I still don't think that is how much they got just for skybet. They bought skybet and gaming, which includes Sports betting, online poker, online casino, online bingo, odds comparison service, fantasy football and super6. The 1.3 billion is what the companies are worth (edit: I mean relative to their stake in the company). I would assume the brand agreement is completely separate and we won't know how much that is worth or who gets what from it.

Up until about 2 days before we appointed Carlo, the bookies had Moyes as favourite and a load of other blurts with low odds and Carlo was an outsider. They definitely try to influence things but also haven't got a scooby doo. There is no reason to expect things to be any different this time and it is best to completely ignore the betting (unless you are having a punt) and the many media reports from unreliable sources and just wait until real information comes from the club. It will come but it definitely hasn't yet. I have seen nothing credible to date.

Quite an interesting short vid on how he approached a particular game. Interesting his thoughts on breaking the low block by overloading the fullback - not unlike Galtier's full back winger horizontal movement.

It says the suspicion that it has dragged on so long is that he's hopeful of an offer from us, although it isn't clear how likely that is

Without doubt, he'll be aware that we're on the prowl and can probably provide a bigger platform to him than Palace. I've um'ed and ah'd about Nuno since his name was put forward, not convinced he's what we need nor would be a success.

Wasn’t implying it was just for SkyBet, it was for their gaming division.

The valuation of the companies will have included the branding. The fact that Sky is a well known and trusted (ish) brand will have bumped the price up.

It’s not the same as a third party licensing a brand name. They bought the company - a chunk of the reason for buying it will have been the brand itself.

Something to do with his huge backroom staff and them not having the budget to hire them all. To be fair that's a concern in itself, Nuno has a huge team working with him plus Mendes who has held his hand when it comes to transfers/players.

I think the jist was he was dragging it out with Palace, asking for more and more stuff - clearly dragging his heels for a better offer. Which he’s probably had word is likely to come..

I dare say Sky still benefit, be it from affiliates fees from click-throughs, or just the general quid-pro-quo of "leak 'story' about a manager, odds shorten because loads lump on, publish more 'stories' on that manager so those who lumped on will give you a click'.

One way or another: Don't trust bookies' odds.

I've still to see this CONFIMRED anywhere, so although Athletic are running it none of the major outlet have reported it at time of writing? as far as I can see!
happy to be corrected!

I know the Mail online reported it. If that counts..

They don't try to they certainly do, a manager goes from 33 to 25 to 16 to 10 to 5 to 2 and you have people going on about how they managed to get a bet on at 16 just before it went to 10, wake up the next morning and its back out to 50 to 1, and some other git is after tumbling in the betting attracting more bets.

…looks like somebody has had £5 on Potter with BetVictor;

I think the sad fact was we were on the verge of appointing Moyes until Carlo was sacked.

the Athletic piece is quite damming on NES. Sounds like he's been a prize pain in the 'harris' with his new demands and constantly moving the goalposts every step of the way.
Interestingly the article suggests we haven't made any real moves for Nuno but the Everton job being available certainly caused issues for Palace as Nuno and his team shut off all communication with Palace for a week or so in the hope of taking over for Ancelotti??
Bullet dodged?
