Threat of villa

Just watched the villa youth side play the rs off the park to win the fa youth trophy. The club seem like they are being run well top to bottom, owners are filthy rich, back room staff have been poached from clubs around the country and youth side is looking incredible. First team played some good stuff this season. Thier signings last summer weren’t flash but cash, Martinez, traore, and watkins have proved astute buys.
The manager again has improved them every season.
They seem like a club moving in a upward direction, well run and making wise investments for the long term good of the clubs future. While we seem like we are spunking money and hoping something lands lucky.
Big city, good stadium. Can see villa proving a big threat to our status in the tier below the big spenders over the next 10 years.
Sod Villa...pancho, aston or aintree...We're our own biggest threat to ourselves - sort that and were laughing

Generally means nothing in the grand scale of things. Everton U23's won the PL a couple of years back didn't they?

Even among the youth players who clean up at that level winning trophies and represent their international team it's still a tiny percentage who graduate to PL level football. And an even smaller percentage who become elite players.

See Tom Davies, Ryan Ledson and many, many others.
I agree that most of that team last night will be nowhere near their first team, however it points to a good set up and infrastructure. They are rebuilding the club from the ground up, investing in every area.

I mean anyone who coaches players, favours youth and doesn’t spend silly money on 29 yearolds and Alex Iwobi is going to overtake us at some point

But like any club who have spent their recent history bobbing around The Championship they are still only one or two bad decisons or a bit of consistent bad luck from it all going very wrong.

Don't know much about behind the scenes at Villa but what does "rebuilding the club from the ground up" entail? I know they got a new DOF in either this season or last but that's not a unique development in the footballing world and shows that they felt they got it wrong with previous decisions or a change of direction was required for the different challenge they faced.

And which clubs aren't investing in every department? There's a small fortune getting pumped into the Academy, scouting, infrastructure and other parts at the majority of top flight clubs.

Not to say you're wrong but I just don't see why Villa are identified as any more of a threat than the numerous interchangeable clubs, including Everton, bobbling around outside the top quarter of the table.

I suppose i think we are currently the 7th/ 8th best choice of clubs for players. After “big 6 and potentially Leicester now. We are no closer to breaking the the big six domination, however there are now teams such as villa threatening to challenge us for thay 7th/8th best choice spot.
You are right about the wrong choices being costly. Grealish is obviously a big part of their success and him leaving may upset the apple cart, however while we looking like “project” built on over paid mercenaries, Villa seem to have a plan on small steps in the right direction.
I hope this time next year I have been proven wrong

I cant take this seriously when you mention Traore being an astute buy. Hes a donkey.

However Konsa is a top player.
Traore is hot and cold but on song looks v good. It’s his first season and had no preseason - next year will be the time to judge.

They were a malfunctioned goal-line technology away from being relegated last season after spending 100 million plus. They needed the play offs to get promoted the year before with the biggest budget.. they've just finished bottom half again.

They can't be that well run.
