I think its difficult to pin what Gomes does, he doesn't really defend very well as every tackle seems like a foul or he gets nowhere near. He is great on the ball but does not really move it forward, score or assist. In his first season a few performances stick out like the Pickford Derby and Arsenal at home etc where he was progressing the ball and players were bouncing off him, he also seemed to have abit of energy about him but even before the injury he started playing within himself and after the injury it really looks like he does not enjoy being on the pitch. He is a tidy player but after his awful time with Barca/injury I don't think he has any drive to affect a game of football.
Ye I see what you mean, but as weird as it sounds, you get your midfielders who don’t defend, they’re your play maker, the likes of Allan/Davies do that, he’s there to receive the ball, and use his passing ability. However, there’s currently little to no movement up front. And I think that’s where the issues lie. I’m not saying for one minute I think gomes has played well this season, he needs to improve. But give him options and I think his form will get better.

He is ok at recycling the ball but has lost a yard and badly lacks dynamism and is meant to be a creative player. That he has a few asists and one goal in three seasons says it all. Have sympathy with the injury and he seems a good bloke but no room for sentiment we need pace and power and ball carrying he isn't bringing that.
I know what you mean, but we don’t have no movement or pace anywhere currently, a left back being marked out the game by teams. A non existent right side and a front line looking tired. If we freshen these up, I believe gomes will improve for that. He never was a ball carrying midfielder even before he arrived?

I don’t see the hate towards gomes. Granted he’s not having the best season. But he can pass a ball, give him athletic players around him like Allan and dac. But add to that pace and width, and it’ll help him massively. I’ve mentioned in other topics, teams know how we like to play down the left, so they’ve stopped us playing that way. Our right side isn’t good enough, so then everything goes through the middle, all our squad midfield players are central. Get width and pace in this squad, and players like Gomes, improve.
The thing is, he’s not good enough to build the team around, he’s got like one goal and 3 assists in 70 games. He’s not strong enough, slow. Defensively really poor. Players just stroll past him.

James is good enough to be that player, Gomes certainly isn’t

Have to say, for me it makes no sense to only sign one wide attacker...if were going down that route then we need to sign 2.

Call Leverkusen and ask them how much for Bailey + Diaby plus their CB Tapsoba.
Or just put Richy back on the left where he is best and get Bailey.

If we are going to improve our forward line why wouldn't spurs try and improve theirs with the 130m for Kane? Instead of downgrading then giving us money to buy someone better? Surely they'd just spend the 130m on whichever player you are suggesting we recruit?
Because if we sell DCL. Maybe that money buys us 2. Another striker Toney? Or a younger striker from abroad and a quality wide player.

Spurs will want a player to go straight in as Kane’s replacement. Linked with martial ( I don’t rate him at all) this morning maybe as swap deal with Utd.

It’s also about appeasing the fans. Sell kane and buy a Dybala or icardi for 60/70 mil
Or DCL. Getting a 150mil for Kane and spending 30 on Toney or Danny ings. Id imagine wouldn’t go down to well with the fans

As a squad player fine, I don't hate him I just don't think he offers enough and if we got a good offer we should move. He is not a player who will make the difference. Agree there are big issues why, lack of a right back who can get up and down, balance, pace, width and movement but we need someone who can burst forward and score goals. A Tielemans type ironically we were offered him. Or at least a box to box player with drive.

Good idea in theory I just don't trust our recruitment to replace him, I would sooner sell Richy but his fee will have gone down after this season.

Yes to be honest I wouldn’t sell either of them really. But an 80mil bid for DCL from someone. I’m sure they would think about it.

Richarlison has been so poor this season. I wonder who would be even interested in him. And probably only for 50mil max. Hopefully he has a good summer with Brazil, so either his price goes up or he comes back with confidence and a new mentality. You’d think the club would be having a word about his attitude on the pitch. The constant sulking doesn’t help him or the team. I think a lot of fans are getting sick of him now.

Levy is an interesting one isnt he....

If i was in his position and had £120mil from Kane what would i do...i think id go for DCL as currently hes the next best thing to Kane in terms of profile, Nationality, age, cost etc.

I highly doubt he would be leaving though.

Richarlison has had a terrible season but hes the type mentality wise that doesnt stop working for the team. He now has to play on the left though.

@billyblue80 even if we played Richarlison left and signed Bailey and went 433 we would have:

Richarlison DCL James Bailey = 4 players for 3 positions with James injury prone.

We need a 5th player there to increase competition and depth -- there has to be an option from the bench to allow for rotation.

Id go for both Bailey and Diaby from Leverkusen. £80mil for the pair less Kean fee would be something like £40mil.

That seems to be a great deal to inject pace, youth, assists and goals across the front 3.

In theory we wouldnt need to even look at the front 3 again for 2 seasons.

Just some decent midfielders who can carry a ball. Have we actualy got any who look decent travelling with a ball at their feet without looking like they are so uncomfortable.
I think we're the worst in this league for players who struggle with that.
