I'd say hes got 1 more season maybe. Either out on loan or at the club.
If its with ambitions for him to be a first team player than id say stay at the club.
As someone else has said, you are in danger of going the dowell/pennington/connelly route with another loan.
If we like him, keep him. If we are not sure.....cash in!
I agree the club have to make better and quicker decisions on our youngsters, and not left them hang around the club, into their early/mid 20’s.

But Gordon has been considered one of the better ones from the last couple of years, so I think he will definitely get one more year.

....I wouldn’t assume Gordon wants a contract extension. He’s already been linked with clubs at home & abroad and might think a move is best for him.

Dowell I think only left last year at what 22/23 and had 3/4 loans. Pennington is 26.

Gordon has only just turned 20. Do well sell Onyango next summer at 19 if he hasn’t made or had a good loan.
Im not a fan of loans as I think they seem to do more damage than good.

Im interested in the Plan for helping players to bridge the gap from U23 to the first team. I’m also mindful we have harmed some players by just not deciding. Loans seemed like a way of kicking the decision down the road.

I would like to see Gordon given another chance, but I don’t think it will happen. Maybe one more carefully considered loan would help, but after that, we just need to grow a pair and decide.

I would say a move would definitely be good for both parties. Ancelotti obviously doesn't fancy him, and a league where he gets a bit more space to play in will suit him better, maybe Germany?

loans are tricky. They all start off with good intentions but you never really know how they'll pan out. Largely because teams in the lower leagues priorities can change very quickly due to the unpredictability and when loaning younger, unknown talents you never know now how'll they adapt to a competitive environment. I spoke to someone who works at Reading last year about Joao Virginia and they were full of praise for him and said he was an incredible young talent but despite his obvious ability they saw very quickly he wasn't ready so he was dropped for a more reliable GK.
I imagine it's the same for Gordon this year. The boy is clearly talented but so are most of the youngsters at premier league teams. It's having the right work ethic and mentality that makes you a breakthrough talent and I'm not sure Gordon has that yet. He should have torn it up in the Championship but really hasn't. Again his ability and talent isn't in question but he's just not delivered and whilst the that may not be all his fault, the impression you get is he isn't doing all he can to change that.
A failed loan isn't the end though... Ross had a couple of poor loans at Sheff Wednesday and Leeds before his breakthrough season with us so Gordon may (and hopefully does) prove me wrong. I'd like to see him get another season in the Championship, with a loan sorted early so he gets settled and has a full season at a club and hopefully doesn't have managerial changes etc like he has this year.
Same goes for Simms. If Blackpool go up extend the loan or get him another Championship club. Keep upping his level. These kids need a competitive environment, they need they need to learn that bad performances have consequences and they won't get that on our bench or in the 23s.
