Everton Summer transfers 2021

Not saying you specifically but there was thus sentiment of Gana can't pass or Rom doesn't do anything but score so we'll be fine with replacements and it wasn't obviously close to true.

Rom left in summer of 17 and we didn't fix the striker position until DCL stepped up in December 2019. Gana left summer of 19 and we might not fix the midfield until 2 and a half years later either.
Well we immediately bought his replacement but he has sadly been injured for the whole time pretty much. We also signed Doucoure and Allan last summer who started well but again have been screwed by injuries

Point remains.

I'm also pretty sure Allan and Doucoure isn't going to make a top four midfield and honestly I'm not sure what Gbamin does but I have a hard time believing he'd have slotted right in and carried the midfield like Gana did the last year.

Which means he's great on the whole. That's all I'm saying, we underestimated on the whole how good he was for us.

It's funny how Gana doesn;t really get recognised a lot as a bonafide world class player when people mention them. He was for us. He's moved abroad and been a central part of a team who have won 2 leagues and got to a CL final and semi final (as well as knocking out the holders in the 2nd season).

The back end of that final season he was wonderful too. I remember him dominating Pogba in a match at Goodison. Gomes and Sigurdsson could justdo what they wanted as he covered every blade of grass.

I understood why we sold him, and reluctantly probably agreed with it. Unfortunately Delph has flopped and Gbamin has got injured.

The last 6 months of Silva's first season when we were quite good was pretty much down to him. It was an amazing run of form and wasn't that far from his usual level.

Yes he was a central component. I always felt when I watched Gana I was watching someone who was top class. I like Allan and I like Doucoure but they are not quite at that level.

If Carlo wanted to show the world he was utterly out of ideas I am struggling to think of a better way than to bring on Delph repeatedly. It's like he's saying to all the other top line managers 'yes, it's dreadful, but look at the dross i've been left with'
