ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

See I look at that and the team that sticks out like a sore thumb for me is the only one that got the rest of their league banned from competing in Europe. European shame more like.
we'll never know how different that table would have appeared had the ban not been inflicted upon our best ever team by the lovables over the road.

What will happen, is he will come in and be amazing, however he plays, they will say he is amazing. It will then slowly dawn on them he isn't the player he was, and there will be huge arguments, with those who tell the truth being labelled heretics. Thats how this plays out.

They are now slowly starting to realise Keita is not the best midfielder in the world.
Well they think that thiago is amazing when he's crap so no doubt this will be the case.

I actually think they are much much worse than previously as well.

I don't know if it's the lockdown, or whether it's the fact they've had some success and got a bit giddy but they seem worse than ever currently. I remember they would be snarky when they went 10 years without a trophy but for the most part they used to celebrate Manchester City winning things as it was stopping Manchester United.

They are absolutely fewming now. It's really easy to wind them up, you just say City played well and they are on you. It seems worse than they were with even Mancheter United.

In general my rule is I never want an English side to win anything in Europe. But I am slightly torn, as it would be hilarious getting to see Manchester City win the CL and league in the same season and see the heads fall off.

Their behaviour is not normal across other fan bases.

They hate us - fair enough, we’re historic local rivals but we’ve been pretty much an irrelevance for thirty years, yet Klopp mentions us on his bus parade at their highest point, Carragher can’t stop bringing us into everything, whenever they win something buildings linked to us are vandalised. You don’t see Barcelona fans with Espanyol at the front of their minds whenever they win anything.

They hate United - I don’t really get this one as the whole city rivalry should extend to us if it existed but it doesn’t. They’ve never particularly competed at the same point in time either with only one title race that comes to mind in PL history and a handful of cup ties. Not many other team fan bases have this level of hatred for a team not from their city that they don’t really compete with. Arsenal and United don’t hate each other this much and look at the battles they had.

They despise Chelsea - based on a few games between them in the CL which they actually won, and the fact that Mourinho has tainted them a few times means they now pretty much blame them for absolutely anything that goes wrong in football.

They hate City and Guardiola - ok they’ve denied them a few titles, but again they actually beat them in the CL. For some reason though nothing bends them out of shape as much as the sight of City winning things.

They hate Harry Kane - no idea why as he’s generally useless against them and again they’ve not competed for anything apart from a final which Liverpool won, but he got picked as England captain over Henderson which means we now have kopites seething on Twitter if Kane scores for England at a World Cup.

The hate Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos. Ok they lost a game against them but there’s an unnatural level to their bitterness about this one off event.

Their revilement is also extended to any player who doesn’t play for Liverpool and is taking up the slightest bit of media attention away from them e.g this week it’s apparently an utter disgrace that pundits are praising a 20 year old English player in Foden who has taken his team to the CL final. What an utter disgrace, after we had multiple page pull outs on Mo Salah when he did the same thing.

They go around calling everyone else bitter but I honestly don’t know any other team that has this same number of invented rivalries. It’s got to the point where they’re so toxic that other fans are putting aside old local rivalries due to the annoyance of Liverpool fans. United and City would now both rather the other win over Liverpool. Chelsea would lose a game to any of the London teams if it denied Liverpool a trophy. They think it’s because there’s a conspiracy against them but they’ve caused this bizarre situation.

Most fans I know want their team to win and their local rivals to lose. After that they couldn’t really care less about other teams. Liverpool fans for some reason have gone above and beyond in the bitterness scales and invented poisonous rivalries that just don’t exist.

Splendid post sir

They’re just a putrid fanbase.

From list of “European Royalty” I posted yesterday, they’re arguing that Man Utd don’t deserve to be on the list lol

The same Man Utd who won and appeared in a European Cup 9 years before they did.

They genuinely are the most jealous of them all. Whilst I hate City winning everything, their reasoning is because they’re using “tainted” money and blaming UEFA for not acting sooner.

They’ll point the finger at anyone and everyone who will listen, it’s truly bizarre.
They are the definition of bitter fans .

Van Dijk is a myth. No one even mentioned him at Southampton. He’s ran past continuously, half the time he’s nowhere near the danger zone because he’s out of position, gets caught on the ball all the time. Loads of better centrebacks than him in Europe and even in the prem. I’d rather have any of City’s three they have now, I’d rather have had Kompany when he was playing as well.
Not fit to lace Kompany's boots

Hes the player people make Van Dijk out to be. See on the BBC have a video discussing is Van Dijk the best prem centre half ever. He's not even the best cb in the league now never mind ever.

For what it's worth, I actually think Van Dijk is an excellent defender, his organisation is a strength and he just covers so much ground, but because Liverpool were so good last year, people overlooked the fact that he has mistakes in him, but overall, an excellent defender.

Come back to me, when he has 10 solid years at the top like Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry, Kompany and i'll happily engage on who is the best CB, and include Van Dijk, that BBC article is nothing more than clickbait, as neither have him near the top anyway.

As for City, yes they've spent a lot of money on defensive players which haven't been a success (Mendy, Danilo, Ake), but that Días is just playing so so well, aided by the resurgence of John Stones, who is in the form of his life. I remember watching Serie A growing up, and seeing Nesta, Maldini, Cannavaro, Stam command the defence so well, same with Puyol in Spain, literally willing to do anything to put their team first, and it was truly a joy to behold, watching Días this season has been like watching them in their prime.

No one really gives defenders the same compliments as attackers, but I'd pay money to see that Días, what a player.

According to a RS mate Van Dijk is on par with Maldini. :hayee:lol

I mean, lets be very clear here... if Van Dijk plays 24 years in one of the top leagues of Europe, whilst doing so playing in a world class manner, then yeah, absolutely... 100%.

He's just got 18 seasons to go, and turns 30 in the summer, so go on Virg, play til you're 48, prove me wrong.

Good Centre Half, transformed Liverpool's defence, but realism here.

Of course Van Dijk is a good player but the praise has been way overboard. The greatest centreback in the world, the greatest in PL history. It’s just completely baseless. He’s had a couple of decent seasons but it’s nothing on the body of work of the likes of Adams Terry Ferdinand Vidic Kompany, who are the true PL greats. I’d even put the likes of Stam Carvalho Sol Campbell probably just ahead of him given what they’ve done.

Currently I’d rather have any of Dias Stones Laporte over him. I think positionally they’re better and make less mistakes in possession and have a better temperament. Van Dijk likes to cruise around when it’s all by ping great but when under pressure he starts digging out team mates and making statement hits on opposition players for no reason to boost his image. Ultimately it was that which injured James in the derby.

A good player, but when he’s snorting in 30 yard shots into the top corner to singlehandedly win his 4th title, after close to a decade at the top of the premier league game then he might be able to make a claim for best ever.

Oh no, he's overrated, but that doesn't mean he's not a top drawer player, that said, I thoroughly agree that he's not alone in this category at the moment in the world, or even the Premier League.

When the dust settles, and you see what Kompany did (he came in when it was first beginning for City, for £5m - not a World Record like Van Dijk), and how he led his team to 4 leagues (in which he scored two huge goals, to swing the title in their favour) and multiple honours, he's the epitome of a leader and I think that often overshadows his ability, before the injuries he was just outstanding.

Días, if he carries on like that, will surpass him and the majority of PL defenders for the last 10-15 years for me.
