You from Seattle?I'm not completely against the idea of trying to have competition of this nature in American sports but it would take a loooooong time to do. Historically speaking the system was set by baseball which had a fossilized hierarchy of leagues basically by the 1920s. The combination of minor leagues in baseball and college leagues in football and basketball has made it so that no one is really arsed that relegation and promotion don't exist. Or at least to this point they've never really been.
Part of that is because the leagues are actually pretty fair. Yes the Lakers have a greater pull than the Warriors but who has won more in the last decade? That can't really happen in soccer because mechanisms like salary caps and drafts aren't a thing so promotions and relegations are what fills that void. It's just different and I'd say most everyone here is fine with how it goes. I mean I would love if my city had an NBA team again and it would be great if they had a second tier team that instead of being a feeder was actually out for itself and trying to challenge for a spot but that isn't what we've got so I just enjoy it how I do now.
