Champions League revamp

They will get public relations people on it, sell it a different way and bring it back in some form in a few years.

The biggest problem this time was the lack of PR before announcing it. I’m quite certain that if it had been sold in a different way, the fans of those clubs would have been delighted with it.
That's why the punishment has to be severe so this project is not attempted again in a few years.

I don't think some of their fans may have been sold not matter the PR. Some football fans, even from these clubs, do want fair competition and enjoy the diversity of the clubs involved. I mean, how boring it would be to know that one of these 12 elite team would always have a chance to win, what's the point of such tournament. Sometimes what brings real excitement to the game is when the underdogs are having a good run against the big teams and that won't be possible in the Super League.

When's the last time and NBA team got relegated? When's the last time a complete outsider team won the finals?
A team from San Antonio that started in a renegade league has won five NBA championships. Anyway, my point was comparing an American league to the Super League only. There is no basketball or baseball pyramid in America, you can’t compare it on that level. But even in our closed shops there is far more competition than there would be in this Super League.

I'm not completely against the idea of trying to have competition of this nature in American sports but it would take a loooooong time to do. Historically speaking the system was set by baseball which had a fossilized hierarchy of leagues basically by the 1920s. The combination of minor leagues in baseball and college leagues in football and basketball has made it so that no one is really arsed that relegation and promotion don't exist. Or at least to this point they've never really been.

Part of that is because the leagues are actually pretty fair. Yes the Lakers have a greater pull than the Warriors but who has won more in the last decade? That can't really happen in soccer because mechanisms like salary caps and drafts aren't a thing so promotions and relegations are what fills that void. It's just different and I'd say most everyone here is fine with how it goes. I mean I would love if my city had an NBA team again and it would be great if they had a second tier team that instead of being a feeder was actually out for itself and trying to challenge for a spot but that isn't what we've got so I just enjoy it how I do now.

How can these clubs now expect to be involved with any future discussions regarding any sort of reforms to either the PL or the CL?! They have no credibility. As for repercussions, I'd ban them from euro football for next season at least and dock each club enough points for next season that it's a challenge to stay up. That's for the clubs that have had enough sense to back off right now. The ones that drag this on for the next few days? Automatic relegation and it'll they'll go down a further division each day they carry this pantomime on for.
PL and Uefa will now bend over for any request as they know these clubs can finance their own leagues and cause both organisations to lose millions. Absolutely devasted.
