Outside of Bayern, who are dominant because they have been brilliantly run by Uli Hoeneß for 20 years and then his buddy Killer Kalle, The Bundesliga is fantastically competitive. It's a fan-first model. Small clubs are generally in the ascendancy in Germany. The giants, HSV, Schalke, Kaiserslautern, and Stuttgart have all had recent relegations or will have one this season. Cologne, Gladbach, Frankfurt, and Hertha have all been up and down. All have been poorly managed. Freiburg, Union Berlin and other smaller clubs have huge scope to thrive. It has the biggest attendances in world football for a reason.
