Champions League revamp

Not supportive of this super league at all but the idea that it’s anti competitive surely isn’t right - are we saying No rival leagues can be set up outside UEFA’s control? Surely the Super League have more of a case in terms of not being allowed to break away?

It makes it anti-competitive because the Super League doesn't have promotion and relegation, it keeps these founding members regardless and makes them millions. It's invite only, therefore no other clubs can enter unless invited and even then, don't make any money from it as it goes to the founding members.

So domestically these clubs will massively outstrip every other club financially and create a further divide.

The idea of setting up a new league is not the issue. But forfeiting another competition for it (Champions League where you can qualify for) and not allowing governing bodies to run it (it's ran by the clubs owners) is where the issue is.

Doesn't mean the 12 clubs signed up won't be able to field footballers mate.

When the anger fades, you'll get more and more Tuchel type replies.

There is no doubt that money will talk when it comes to player recruitment, even if it means going for the older superstars who aren’t bothered anymore with World Cups but just fancy another £50million....

For fans who think the Premier League will expel the six.

They won't. Fans annoyed at that statement today, expecting news of clubs being banned. Nope.

The government have a mandate to do what has needed doing for a long time. Adopt a German like model.

Ah ok, thansk for clarifying,

Yes maybe. We will see. I certainly didn't expect them to be banned today. You wouldn't do that. A lot of this is now a game of PR and bluff. I think as someone said before though, a lot of this is how wars start, where two sides just aren't able to back down form positions. I also thin, the PL 14 are backed into such a corner, it is going to be a very hard sell to their fanbases that they're not excluded. They are essentially saying we will allow 6 teams to lie, cheat & defraud the game, potentially even bankrupt it if this super league is a success purely on the basis of having some more money at the next TV negotiations. And crucially also conceding to never being able to challenge to win anything again. I mean they could do, but who knows.

But you're right to say, it will not be straightforward, and isn't going to happen on day 1, or with a simple "your fired" type of statement. Traps will be set.

As for the government, yes it will have an impact, but it's not going to stop this league. There are also real questions about how funds are raised for this. Who's raising £2bn to buy 51% of Liverpool? I can actually see the government doing that, but having very little detail of how it's achieved.

Thats a perfectly logical deduction, and eemed to be what Gary Neville was implying yesterday.

It is a bit like the stock market (I'm not sure if you've done much trading/investing) but one tremor and it gives huge movements. You could well see a similar reaction. I actually thought Stan Collymore's point was a good one the other night too, Real Madrid and Barcelona get out of debt with this, Juventus and the teams in Milan get massive exposure, what do our teams get? We just bail out the 2 Spanish teams. Madness.

As for how people come back, and with the cavaet that you absolutely could be right, my gut feeling is there are layers within the clubs so they won't act as one block. I also have this gut feeling, that some clubs must have given some firm- potentially legal commitments on this to relevant monied interests. The sort that are very difficult, and very costly to walk away from. I wuld be very surprised, if every club would be able to easily walk away, penalty free, having come this far. It feels far beyond the tentative negotiation, or even pre contract stage.

Some supposition of course.

My own view, is if a couple come back, or 1 if it's City it's going to make it very very easy to kick them all out. Or at least much easier.

I dont think there is a single PL team brave enough to walk away from PL if others come back, especially if it is more than one. This has been does as a pack of wolves, despicable ones & they will remain together.

It's also really important to mention that the chances of them actually leaving the PL are incredibly slim, in fact I say its almost impossible

Three possible outcomes for me.....

1) Tails between legs. PR disaster and they lose all moral authority in PL
2) All parties spend 12 months looking for a solution (UEfa, PL, the six & domesitic leagues)
3) Super league goes ahead with significant offer to domestic leagues making it competitive as a genuine competitor to CL

My money is on outcome 2; i do not see a scenario where we have witnessed our last derby under

Something as substantial as this and the manager hasn’t been briefed or spoken privately to in the past about a possibility of it happening? I don’t buy it. It affects the team and the manager is in charge of the team.

Look, I could be wrong here , we are on the outside looking in aren’t we and I don’t mean to be a smartarse , there are times I can’t accept everything told to us.

OGS was told by Woodward the hour before the game on Sunday that the reports (which emerged just before ko) were true

Look at the contempt they treat their fans with. They don't care, mate. You have to get your head around that. These aren't clubs, they are brands. As far as these owners are concerned.

I know you're not meaning to be a smartarse. But there's no way the managers were consulted about the decision. The players all saying the same thing as well.

The owners are the ones who are the culprits here.

City now tweeting opposition to something they have joined

It's more of a case of " I have no idea what's going , give me time to find out and I'll get back to you with a kick arse quote ".
Still it's not entirely towing the party line and it's strange that it's on the official account . This post must of crossed at least a dozen desks before being posted .
Maybe it's true that they only joined because they didn't want to miss out .

The difference is though, that Manchester City's case was water tight and FFP is in contravention of pretty basic cornerstones of European law. Yes the masses of lawyers helped, but FFP breaches chapter 1 of anti-competition law. This is not particularly advanced stuff either. You wouldn't even need to be a junior solicitor to know it, just a standard degree from a Russel Group university and you are learning this stuff in the 1st semester.
I don't want to provoke an argument on that particular case, especially with you, because you're much smarter than me and I only have a scant appreciation of the case on both sides.

I wanted more to underscore the vast legal resources available to each one of these absolute sociopaths and their ability to buy whatever justice they want.

If I was advising the remaining 14 I would be counting on the scab 6 expecting to remain in the Premier league while trousering the huge Franchise League money and prepared to fight any attempts at removal. I would be suggesting a work around whereby we, the remaining 14 left and created something within the pyramid of the English FA leaving the 6 outside of that agreement.

They really have no power though. He’s clubs will just get rid of them if they want to. All it will do is create some vague statement. Do you think the owners of these clubs care about that?
Most likely it will only be to create as you say a vague statement.

But disagree that they have no power, if they are unified they very much do. The question of course is if it means that much to them and if that is a widely held belief that this is a joke of a competition.
