Champions League revamp

I’ve learned a new phrase today of ‘holding statement’
If anyone can explain how long we have to wait for a proper statement, that would be sound.

Generally there are two main possible reasons for a holding statement or email.

1) You are working on something and just need a little bit more time to get it ready. But everything is pretty much in hand.

2) You haven't a clue what to do or how to respond and need more time - you use the holding statement as a delaying mechanism.

This is the nail on the head really...

...The only way I can see this going without PL conceding some sort of a revenue loss, would be the break away clubs making more money through the UCL, holding additional revenue through the UCL and this having its own knock on effect to the PL anyway - where we'd see a more consistent top 6 naturally.

Pretty much exactly what they want. And if they get that, they'll take the money where they can and go ahead with this plan again with even more power in the UCL and PL.

That's obviously the ESL's fallback plan, so how do you beat it?

Answer: concede nothing. Bring maximum pressure to bear, make it clear that they need you, and not the other way around, and insist that they are the ones that have to make the concessions in order to come back into the fold.

Otherwise, you're correct about the dynamic. Capitulate now, and you're acceding to an endless series of future hostage crises. So reason back to square one, and say "no" now. If you can't do that, then you'd better figure out how to make it enormously clear the next time that you've changed the dynamic as indicated, because they will try again and you will have to escalate much further to convince them that, this time, you're not backing down.

From both a comms strategy and common-sense perspective, it seems extraordinary that no one from the Super League or any of the clubs involved was able or willing to be interviewed, or could set out the case for support as part of their set-piece announcement. Of course, there is only so much comms can do when the substance is so poor—and the reception would still have been overwhelmingly negative. However, the absence of anyone prepared to argue the case for the Super League is still baffling. Perceptions form quickly and this will have contributed to a perception of arrogance and aloofness.

Florentino Perez came out, but what's telling is nobody has come out following him. There seems to be a horrified silence instead.

Good luck with that.

You can't compel an organisation of their own tournament to select players if they don't want to.

Playing international football isn't a human right.

Conversely, they'll be sued to oblivion in exchange when they leave for breach of commitment, particularly in relation to things like breaking Rule L9 - and rightly so.

this could all drag out for years in the courts, they should be suspended from playing in the PL in the mean time

If Vince as running this he would be replacing Man City with Red Star Belgrade or someone who used to be boss years ago at the expense of the up and coming team.
That's kind of what the plotter clubs want to do: finish outside the top 4 but won the Big Cup 20 years ago? Here's a wild card! It's the football equivalent of the Royal Rumble. In the end, Vince wins.

It feels strangely desperate to me. Rushed. I think there's a major bankruptcy or two pretty close if this doesn't happen.
