Champions League revamp

PSG, like Bayern, are staying within the UEFA negotiating umbrella. They will be the conduits to a "compromise". So, you can imagine how much of a sticking plaster that will be for the game. It will keep the plotters within the PL - preserving the TV money - and it will keep UEFA in nominal control, but the rich will get richer and the stitch-up ECA/UEFA CL "reform" deal will be diluted with even more concessions to the clubs. Liverpool, United, and Madrid look filthy. PSG and Bayern look...brilliantly, if transparently, Machiavellian. UEFA looks like a heroic defender of the...indefensible.

We all know it will happen people just love the drama a long the way lol

Like a WWE script - you know Stone Cold will beat the evil Triple H at Wrestlemania but lets watch them trade blows in the weeks up to it

This is the nail on the head really...

...The only way I can see this going without PL conceding some sort of a revenue loss, would be the break away clubs making more money through the UCL, holding additional revenue through the UCL and this having its own knock on effect to the PL anyway - where we'd see a more consistent top 6 naturally.

Pretty much exactly what they want. And if they get that, they'll take the money where they can and go ahead with this plan again with even more power in the UCL and PL.

Domestic Leagues have no backbone - punishments will only happen if UEFA call for it as they are the ones who seek to lose out the most.

The PL are just hoping the negative press is enough to break up the top 6 leaving.

Its a complete media circus that will rumble on for weeks think I'll give it a miss as whatever happens they'll find a way to screw the rest of us clubs over for their financial benefit.

id like nothing more than PL to stand up and say “in a bit then nobheads”. But we all know this is a contractual nightmare, none of us have the slightest idea what’s involved in all of the legal stuff. So it will, by default, rumble on for a while..

The only hope that if there is a clause for punishment, then PL impose it and harshly.

If not, it’s up to the fans to boycott games that these shower turn up to (when we’re allowed back in the ground).

There is out there an argument that this is why people follow sport - generally predictable story lines with the odd bit of surprise or shock. A male-targeted soap opera, basically.

Given there's still semi's and finals to play this season, I find the timing really strange. Why didn't they just wait until the end of the season to announce what they're doing...?
Reckon a journo found out and was going to publish, so they had to hastily announce the plan themselves

Apparently Juventus fans are ok with this Superleague because they basically hate Serie A and don't want to deal with them anymore.
Then ask your property to move is Switzerland and play against whatever team play in Switzerland.

Being reported on Sky that an unnamed chief exec from one of the 6 called a chief exec from one of the 14 before the meeting and basically said 'we don't want to leave the PL - but we aren't being listened to'.

If true, that's a pretty defiant message...

If that were true, they could have simply not signed up to Champions League reform if not happy and negotiated down to the wire.

It's not true. What they really mean is "we're not getting everything we want, which is all the money, guaranteed, all the time, regardless of sporting merit, forevermore."

...I think so.

I imagine they’ll give those clubs a deadline to withdraw from ESL before sanctions are handed out.
This is true. A breather before it gets downright dirty. There's potentially a war coming now. Need to have them outside the walls before it starts. If they don't bin off the Euro Scab League, then they must go.

They say that the outcome of a coup is determined in the first five minutes. Well, metaphorically speaking, as soon as Florentino Perez went babbling preposterously on some Spanish outlet last night, the jig was up. If this was going to succeed, there would have been a wall of unity from the plotters. Instead, we had no PSG, no Bayern, Napoli and Roma treated like the hired help, and managers and players paraded in front of the media to defend the indefensible.

This was never designed to succeed. It was meant to shock and awe and force further concessions from UEFA, which it inevitably will. UEFA can pose as being the great defenders of the game, but they will be negotiating from a position of weakness. The can will be kicked down the road. The "football family" will come together.
Nah, this is a lot more than posturing. It may well not go ahead, but I don't believe for a second that this was intended as a bargaining tool, they fully intended to do this.
