Champions League revamp

If that's the case, it has massively backfired. Will anyone ever take those 12 clubs seriously again? It would show they are full of empty threats and the rest of the clubs and uefa/FIFA would go to town on them.
Let's see the eventual outcome of the "compromise". They won't just cave. They will pretend to back down while screwing UEFA for every extra cent they can get.

I expected a holding statement so not surprised. If they are considering the right sort of consequences then that's ok. There are an awful lot of legalities to get advice on and it's very important that they get their steps planned out in advance so that the clubs act as a collective 14 rather than on an individual basis.

What matters now is what happens next. You can only hold for so long and we need to hear more in the next couple of days.

Domestic Leagues have no backbone - punishments will only happen if UEFA call for it as they are the ones who seek to lose out the most.

The PL are just hoping the negative press is enough to break up the top 6 leaving.

Its a complete media circus that will rumble on for weeks think I'll give it a miss as whatever happens they'll find a way to screw the rest of us clubs over for their financial benefit.

Being reported on Sky that an unnamed chief exec from one of the 6 called a chief exec from one of the 14 before the meeting and basically said 'we don't want to leave the PL - but we aren't being listened to'.

If true, that's a pretty defiant message...

Think they are powerless and just as damaging to all in kicking them out, maybe a point deduction. Come down to government we are now a sovereign nation... Players and managers can voice opinion and fans can walk away.

I don't think that there's a question that they have the power. What's not clear is whether or not they have the will. <cut to Verbal Kint opining on the nature of power>

Given there's still semi's and finals to play this season, I find the timing really strange. Why didn't they just wait until the end of the season to announce what they're doing...?

They didn't want it to leak and they probably wanted to time it to coincide with UEFA's proposal, which they apparently found sufficiently unacceptable to undermine.

Petty and stupid, if you ask me, but what I'm taking away from this is that they collectively felt both massively disrespected and unheard by both UEFA and the Prem during previous negotiations.

You mean, they won't give us more money.

No problem then.

They can go listen to themselves as much as they like in their new closed talking shop for the self annointed elite.

No, it's because signing off on the Champions League for future seasons is imminent, so they couldn't sign for that THEN go for the Super League as they'd be contractually bound.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

They can announce it whenever they want because they can do anything and nothing ever happens to them.

At least that's what they thought.
