Champions League revamp

why would you want to punish clubs for leaving the SL (and wrecking it)

if City and Chelsea bail, do nothing to them - at all. Give the rest 12 hours from then and if they don’t surrender, then start with the bans, fines etc
Fine idea fella, but if City and Chelsea get knocked out in the semi's, you do know they will probably renege again. Saying that your probably right, just having a very hard time trusting any of these self serving barstewards.

You’re almost pushing an agenda here and it’s becoming really boring.

The 14 will decide what their response will be not you. So sit back, cuddle up with your inflatable Virgil Van Dyke doll and await the outcome.

Im not here to push "an agenda" - Im trying to push some financial realism along with all of the hyperbole

Yes, Super league is a joke, Yes it is engineered by the vile greed of certain owners, but commercial reality means that the 14 will take a pragmatic approach to this. As much as we would all love to see them shown the door this afternoon, it's not going to happen. There is simply too much at stake in terms of legal battles, TV rights, the needs of the 14 etc. I hung my hat on the same point with Restart & was proven correct commercial realities will override the ethical decision every time

you have no idea how happy I would be eat humble pie here if they are thrown out, but any decison will be made with pragamatic business sense rather than what should be done.

I would argue that only Moshiri and the guys at LCFC are even capable of seeing a long game here - there rest cant look past the impact in the here and now

Definitely because it's one of the most obvious examples of bringing the game into disrepute that I've ever seen, if not the worst imo.

But that's probably why Moshiri brought up points deductions at this stage and not kicking the 6 out. That's only going to be a last resort I would guess, and I get that. As much as I'd love to boot them out and have a reset, it's not likely.
Yeah that's my point mate. Let's see.

But no doubt, the threat right now has to be that if they decide to go ahead with it, that's it, they're out.

I don't think you get what I mean...Maybe I worded it badly.

We would get the same slice of a smaller pie. It leaves every club in a status quo in terms of the other 13 clubs in the league. (and indeed all over Europe) We would have to adapt accordingly.

Say Digne wants a new contract and nobody in the ESL wants him what is he going to do? Retire? He will take the best offer that the rest of the clubs can give him. It would be a rocky few years during the adaption but football would go on as always.

The big obvious danger is one of the ESL clubs could blow teams out of the water if they wanted player for their league.

But football will go on, it always has and always will. The scum 6 leaving is a blow but not something that cant be worked around if need be.
Surely the bigger issue is that Lucas Digne just did get a new contract. We've just committed to paying him £100k a week for the next 4 years, so if the income drops significantly one year into that, we're deep in the doodoo. It's all very well saying it'll settle down a couple of years, but it might not be very easy to get through those years, particularly with a wage bill like ours and no guarantees of matchday income any time soon.

Zidane is apparently a lot smarter than Klopp. He told the Spanish media where to go when they tried to discuss it with him, and deflected to Perez.

Having poorer instincts than a guy that threw away a World Cup final with a moment of madness is highly questionable.

Understatement of the year, mate. Completely different culture, community and identity surrounding football in England compared with MLB / NFL / NBA / MLS.
It's all about winning over there, and losing has no consequence.

What do you get if you're crap in the States? The best picks or the best trades (since you have the best picks).

The model works for those US Sports, but it doesn't work over here and never, ever will.

It’s clever what they’ve done in that no fans are allowed in the grounds to voice their disapproval. You can imagine fans booing for the entire 90 mins but they’re not allowed to do so. That’s why they’ve done it in the middle of the season during a pandemic, because the fans are silenced other than social media

Maybe they can still play in the prem as long as they pay a 350 million der each season which is to be distributed amongst the other 14 clubs at the time.
