Champions League revamp

why would you want to punish clubs for leaving the SL (and wrecking it)

if City and Chelsea bail, do nothing to them - at all. Give the rest 12 hours from then and if they don’t surrender, then start with the bans, fines etc
F that. City and chelsea have shown their true colours. Dont give a toss if they felt like they were forced to join. They made a choice. They should face consequences just like the others.

Speaking of which, 8.2 million people watched the FA Cup final on the BBC, which is pretty much the same as the Liverpool Real Madrid CL final.

That’s only because the CL final is usually free to air on BT. The easier knockout games that are subscription only don’t get the same sort of volumes.

Didn’t a bunch of investors buy up some of FSG recently that included LeBron James? I wonder if they new something was up.

The Champions League has all of those clubs, and BT paid £1.2 billion for the rights. The Premier League deal is worth about 3x that.

Fewer games. The individual games are worth about the same amount of money. 380 Prem games, 125 CL games from the group stage on. (16*6 group stage, rounds of 16, 8 and 4 have number of games equal to number of teams, plus a final.)

The TV numbers that are being floated are based on the notion that there will be the equivalent of a lot more knockout stage ties, with guaranteed desirable draws such as El Clasico, Manchester derbies and London derbies in the mix.

GOT's argument is that the bulk of the Prem contract and CL contracts' value is tied up in those derbies and the knockout stage ties.

Because they've essentially gone and signed a contract with another employer behind their current employer's back

Do you not think there's something wrong with that?

There is, but we need to wreck this SL and putting any impediment in any clubs path to prevent them leaving it now is daft. We want City, Chelsea or whoever to quit.

This is why I am saying that they should not unconditionally throw the towel in - they should barter that coin for every bit of leniency it's worth before making a move.
