Champions League revamp

I can’t see in anyway shape or form how the other 14 clubs will agree to this at the meeting tomorrow.
You give Ashley, The dildo twins, the bellend at Fulham, Fellas at Wolves and other clubs far too much credit.

The list of owners that care about their fans over money is ZERO in this league, they will do whats best for their money.

No, I'm not saying they will all vote, hell they might surprise me, but there are 14 owners crapping their pants at the prospect of "going alone", trust me.

Why would you assume they’d cap it at 25 players. They’ll have double that.

Do you honestly think they'll have squads that bloated? The wage bill would be astronomical. And would any self-respecting player really want to languish in the reserves when he could be starting regularly in a top domestic league?

What they have to realize is that maybe for the next 3 years they are better off having them around, but if they let them stay they'll be losing money over the next decade and have no chance to come back.

It is a serious risk to kick them out but it is that versus the certainty of it going bad slowly.

Generally speaking it doesn't work like that. Going to the game is effectively a habit. People like me do it because it's what we do, we can't think of a life that doesn't involve going to the game (when possible) because it's what we've always done. It's part of who we are, and there's a bond with the people you go with that ties you all into it together. Once you stop, the habit and the bonds are broken, and I think it's pretty easy to never get back into it. I know plenty of people who used to go to games religiously and stopped for one reason or another (usually finances or family reasons) who've never started going again once their situation has changed.
And COVID has probably made that cycle just a little easier to break given 1) haven’t been able to go for a while so out of the habit 2) sadly the virus has probably taken a few of the older fans.

I'm not sure they can make more money if they get kicked out of the domestic leagues though. The dual revenue streams of CL and PL are going to be very tough to match with just the Super League. That's why all the stuff insists they aren't leaving the domestic leagues, because they know even if they're putting out a half arsed side they need to have that money to or they'll end up down.
This is about share of wallet. In an ever increasing wallet. They’ll make plenty more than they are now. They’ll revamp things so that they are playing games at a time when the Asian or US markets are in prime time. It’s only a matter of time before the teams become actual franchises.
3 teams in the NW? 3 in london?
Nah.
They’ll merge with us teams. With China. With a few other markets and it’ll end up a world super league. 2 divisions. Franchises all over the world.

If this ESL does actually happen (I still doubt it will), I can genuinely see their “transfer market” ultimately ending up as a closed-shop, with a similar mechanism to a draft system in the States, or maybe like the way they do things in the Big Bash cricket league, where each club is allocated a fixed squad budget and they have to “bid” at the start of each season from a pool of ESL registered players
This is exactly what i was thinking but would take me too long to write it so couldn't be arsed.
Thanks

Yes. They’ll be getting paid a lot more money.

I can't even see it coming off to be honest but I'm absolutely furious today. I feel sick to the stomach. The thought of James, Richarlison, Digne being on the phone to their agents over it etc. The games done. Right when it was starting to get exciting for us. I'm livid

I'm not pleased, either. But the fact is the 12 scab clubs already have signed a lot of top players; it's not like there's a huge void that would need filling. And while those players you mentioned could be on the phone to their agents, the fact remains a team would still want to sign them. And if one does, given the financial backing this scab league will have, the bidding would start at 100 million quid.

Only if they get to stay in. A leveller could be to tell them they can't have players in both - would be so hard to make profit then if they had to build two squads

Its a game of chicken, who blinks first.

If blinking first means we are ruled by these scabs, honestly, I would rather fold the club and start watching Crown green bowls.
