That zyitech fella at Chelsea is hardly pulling up trees
Lads on here were bringing sheets to the launderette every second day thinking about him joining us
He's been hurt a lot and now Tuchel isn't using him. A goal and 3 assists in 800 minutes is more than adequate, his passing is still very good and creatively James is the only player we have that can get anywhere close. But he's too similar to James to be worth signing.

No a CB, we seem to be getting linked to a few at the moment it's weird as we are fairly strong there. It's not to say we could'nt improve it, but other areas are more of a priority imo.
Sell Holgate and buy an upgrade to start ,with 2 of Keane -Mina -Godfrey on the bench with Braithwaite on loan ,
OR keep Holgate as back up RB and sign another CB
We all say we are happy with our CBs ,maybe Carlo is not
However if we are looking at CB knowing we need a RB -RW-CM and a striker if Kean goes there must be a fair few quid in the kitty

While we’re quite strong. I’ve just mentioned in the Holgate thread, he’s 4th choice now, do we take an offer for him if we get a decent one. And Mina has 2yrs left. I’m not say let’s sell 2 of our CB’s but I’m sure brands and the board will be thinking of all these things.

the thing is you look at the top teams, how many have 4 CB’s. City obviously do. Utd have 3 and a youngster. Plus Phil Jones, I’m not even sure if he’s in their 25 man squad.
liverpool have 3 broken ones plus youngsters .

Chelsea have 4 but play 3. Spurs have 4 with Dier, who can/has played in midfield and a youngster from the championship Rodon.

Leicester have 4 two being 37yr old Wes Morgan and forfana who’s 19.
Nididi & Amartey have filled in.

Also all these teams are in Europe

He played 65 min against the RS two games ago.

Id take an offer tomorrow if we got one tbh, i'm not a huge fan of his. I can appreciate he has a bit of pace but even last season his actual numbers for defensive stuff like blocks, interceptions, headers, tackles and the amount of times he was getting dribbled past were not that great, i do think he has stalled a bit. I think there is some interesting decisions to be made throughout the team with regards to signings, i mean we still don't really know just exactly what formation Carlo wants to play as we have had so many injuries from game to game.
We have to remember what we have thought of as quality given our last 25 years is MEH to Carlo and the players he has managed

I reckon we'd sell either Mina (big wage and a bit injury prone) or Holgate (4th choice, great for FFP) at the right price. Keane and Godfrey are first choice for me now, and Branthwaite can be our 4th centre back next year, rotating in and out of the team. Whichever of Mina or Holgate stays to be 3rd choice. We clearly need a RB, CM, RM, backup striker, backup left back, and the money from their sale could help sort us out elsewhere.

I think you do need 4, but often with a clear hierarchy where somebody is 4th choice and doesn't mind that. Whether that's because they're young like Branthwaite and accept that they have to wait their turn, old like Jagielka and accept that their time as a key player has gone, or a utility player like Holgate who feels they'll get enough games somewhere for it to be worthwhile, there has to be a reason why it's OK for them to be only getting half a dozen games . I think it's difficult to keep 4 senior centre halves happy. It's one of the reasons I wouldn't be surprised if Holgate went, (but don't tell Zat for christ's sake) because I wouldn't be surprised if he's getting to the point where he'd rather be a first choice centre half for a lesser side than a squad player for us.

There was a bit in that interview he did a bit with Rio Ferdinand where when asked about playing fullbacks he made very clear he was a CB and was only doing a job for the team and wanted to play as a CB. It didn't sound to me he was enormously happy with the role he had.

He must also see that there is a lot of speculation about a new right back. There was probably a world, where Ancelotti and the club essentially knuckled down with Holgate and decided he was the medium term choice and would get a run at it, and given time to improve. Whatever the rights and wrongs of that (and I appreciate it's probably an unpopular view that he could be a 1st choice) it has been decided that is not the avenue they are going down.

I also have a theory on this utility player stuff, that is essentially since more subs came in, it killed the utility man. Even till the early 00's you were only allowed 3 subs, so a lad like Holgate either on your bench or on the pitch gave you options of changing shape or playing a number of players. There was a value in them. The movement to 5, then 7 now 9 subs has essentially killed that off. I don't think it's the key element by any stretch, but versatility is not as key a component as maybe it once was.

As I've got older I've become more ruthless about such things as player trading. I like Holgate, but if theres a choice between a 4th choice or 15-20m pounds my answer is clear. That doesn't mean I don't like Holgate at all, but the money can be better spent. It's like saying would you rather Hoglgate or a 1st choice rightback akin to Lucas Digne? It's not a zero sum game.
